Which folding Mirror switch do you have. APDATED

Postby steelroe » Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:13 pm

This is going to be a bit long winded but please bear with me.

I am right in the middle of making up the auto folding mirror kits. Need to know the following info from anyone that may be interested.

As already stated there a 2 diff types of switch for folding in the mirror.

Without getting too technical.

Switch 1
This is a spring load switch (pulse type ). i.e Press it and the mirror will fold. You do not have to hold the switch down. Press the other way and the mirros will fold out again. Basically what happens when you press the switch, 12v is supplied to a timed relay beside the door control unit near the interior fuse box. This relay will the energise for a set period of time and switch off.
If you have this type auto folding is straight forward.
This type of switch has a white connection at the rear.

Switch 2

This is the 3 position switch i.e Fold In - Stop - Fold out. With this switch when you press the switch either way (the switch does not spring back)from centre the mirrors will move in the appropiate direction. If you return the switch to the centre position before the mirror has fully retracted it will stop in this position. This type is a small bit more complicated to wire for auto folding.
This type of switch has a black connection at the rear.

So after all that please if you are interested post here which type of switch you have. Pricing to follow for the kit very soon.

I thought that all FTOs already had automatic (switch-based) folding mirrors ?

No.

Only fitted to GPX and some GR's. Never yet seen it on a GS.
Possibly it was an optional extra.

Just looking at the posts so far it looks like "switch 1" was used on 94-95 models and "switch" from there on. So keep it going and we will see how it really turns out
