Postby power » Tue May 05, 2009 9:49 pm

just got my digital rpm gauge from ebay, but instructions with it are very vague! anyone shed some light on how to wire this in? is it a diy job? it also has a torque setting on it to be wired into ignition distributor, it says its not for direct ignition cars, i don't know the difference!! what is the fto?

direct ignition is one coil per spark plug.

I always thought "Direct Injection" was where each cylinder had it own fuel injector, injecting fuel directly into the cylinder.

The FTO incorporates MPI (Multi Point Injection), where the fuel is injected into the intake tract of each cylinder.

That's all well and good, but he said "Direct ignition"

I'm presuming because tachometers use the pulses to a coil pack as a measure of engine RPM, direct ignition may present a problem?

Regardless of what system it uses the rpm is relative to the ignition spark. Post up details of the unit including pic.
Normally you connect the pickup wire to the ignition lead of cylinder 1 and programme the unit for the "number of cylinders" i.e. the FTO has 6
