Alloys

Postby Dave » Mon Feb 27, 2006 12:51 pm

I need new tryes but a set of 18/225/40's cost near on €800, for another few hundred i could get new alloys which is what i'm thinking!!

anyone got any suggestions?

they would have to be 18's and clear the brembos and all that.

Speaking of which, what is the best dimensions for alloys, offset ect?

I know 18's probably look the business but do you not find you are compromising on performance and handling as a result of that extra 1 inch? I'd love to see 18's in the flash on an fto... my 17's look small imo

Hopefully It wont be too long before I can post a nice photo of my 18s sitting in my fto..

Waiting for springs in the post :-) (& Spigots along with an adapter yoke)..

I must admit that I was slightly shocked when I found out how much proper tires cost for 18s...

I know what you mean, after I saw the price of tyres for 17s I want to put on the alloy & tyre sets started to make soo much sense, or at least second hand alloys with tyres. What are the tyres like on those sets though?

Don't they tend to put budget tyres on? Might be false economy at the end of the day?

They will indeed try and put budget tyres on- unless you ask for a specifc brand.
I was quoted 950 for Wolfrace 17s alloys, asked them to put 4 new Eagle FI GSD3's on, they did and took 1k cash.
50 euro extra for Eagle F1's, cant complain!

Hmmm so have you bought a set of those or is that the leading candidate?

it's a candidate at the moment, unsure of how black would look on the car, but it is the leader at the moment!

Bought the tyes from a Place called Coby's just off the red cow roundabout, they were 150 cheaper than Icetronix, 250 cheaper than Halfords, and fitted them there and then (Icetronix were too busy)

Have to say I think those Balck wheels look really cool. I was considering going with balck, titanium or gun metal with a silver rim for my silver FTO.

i was down in Icetronix, i can fit the 45 offset on with a 10MM spacer, but i can easliy fit the 25 offset, question for those in the know, what affect will this have?
will it cause rubbing on the shock?

was looking at putting a 40 profile on but i'll change that if needs be down to a 35!

25 offset is further out isn't it? the higher the number the further in the wheel is? so it would be more likely to be running against the wing?

it won't rub against the wing or anything, there will be scrubbage alright but i can live with that!!

i'll be fitting 255's to the rear to give it that wide wide look at the back!!!

nope, there's a 35 offset, and the rims are 8" i think so that's the widest tyre that i could get on them!

that pic doesn't really do it justice, they look huge from the rear!
