Re-fitting an original steering wheel?

Postby convert » Mon Dec 31, 2007 7:47 pm

Looking at an FTO currently. I like the idea of having an airbag just in case, so how difficult (or not) is it to remove a MOMO wheel and put an original with intact airbag back in?

Also I'm presuming that being airbag related it's a main dealer/ auto electrician job??

It depends what year the one you're looking at is, the facelift models have airbags as standard.

It's a 95 V6, I had assumed they all had airbags given the size of the original wheel no???

with airbags is it iffy having them reinstalled by a non franchise workshop??

If you want an airbag I think the easier option is to find one that has one fitted.

As far as I know only the facelift model has airbags. The original steering wheel of non facelifts is just rather large around the middle..It doens't have airbags..

Safest option is to not crash. ;-)

Airbags were optional on the prefacelift model. Mine has both driver and passenger airbags.

Looks sort of like a Galant steering wheel.

You can see it (upside down) in this picture.

It's big but I like it.

Well since you already have a momo why not replace it with a momo steering wheel with an airbag like this one (conveniently with a mitsi logo on it :) )

Would the car electrical system need modification?? As in new fuse relay and such like?

If so it might be as well off to leave it as I'd dread to think of the labour bill for something like that
