Ignition Leads 8mm or 8.5mm

Postby Kace » Mon Apr 27, 2009 9:45 pm

Anyone know the difference (apart from cost) of the 8mm and 8.5mm ignition leads ? I presume that the thicker the wire the better, due to lower resistance or something of that nature. Anyone able to confirm ?

Also anyone got any new Magnecor leads for sale or know where they can be sourced at a comparable price to the obvious Camskill option ?

What type of car / engine / aspiration would you normally require for this to make a difference, or will there be no noticeable difference on any car ?

Engines that require long run HT leads (long distance from old style distributer to plugs) and some very very high pressure turbo / supercharged engines that run very high voltage HT systems. The 8mm Magnecor leads are overkill on the FTO but look nice and will last a good while, fitting the 8.5 won’t hurt but they won’t benefit either, some manufacturers and distributers like to imply fitting more expensive plugs and HT leads over the standard ones will release more power but this is just want to need marketing and completely untrue.
