Cost from a Service / Few Misc Items

Postby RussMan » Sat Jan 13, 2007 8:55 pm

Got work done on the car and not happy with Price.
What do you think?

Oil / Filter - Provided Oil Myself - Air Filter was cleaned only not changed.
Rear Drop links were apparently replaced.
Radiator Cap Replaced
Rotated Wheels
Greased up Calipers!!
Banged out wheel arches - Still rubbing however.
Front Cylinder bank tappets. Rears weren't done.
Greased Sunroof rails.

440 Euro for that. I feel a bit shafted!

Doesn't sound greatt value for money, that said, tappets are a big enough job - I'm assuming that ate up most of your budget?

I wouldn't of minded as much if all the tappets were reset but it was just the front cylinder bank...

Paul in Artane. I havn't paid yet as i'm a little pissed off but not sure on the best way of approaching it....

Any suggestions?

Talk to him directly and tell you're not happy with the cost bearing in mind the work that was done...

A bit late now I guess, but never ask anyone to do a job for you without agreeing the price in advance. Car mechanic, painter, ar$e scratcher, whatever!

Anyway, if I wasn't happy with the price I'd ask him for a full breakdown of costs, so then you can see what cost what and you'll know then what exactly they're charging you for. At least then you can debate individual charges with him to bring it down.

Reminds me - a guy here at work who's house is being built at the moment was telling us he got the bill from the blocklayer, and he worked out he was being charged for about 2000 more blocks than he actually bought!! It was only when he went through the bill and worked it out he spotted it. He got some lame answer about having to re-lay some, and having to draw some up the stairs, and some other nonsense.

Yeah Paul is generally a reasonable guy... atleast he'd explain to you how he comes to that figure.

440 doesn't sound totally unreasonable when the tappets are included - don't they take around 2 hours,

my wife paid 240 for a service on her polo a while back and that was a nixer that didn't even include the brakes.

If it was Paul I'm sure there is good reason and he will have a full explanation for you. Any work I have gotten done with Paul has never exceeded about 200 yo-yos so there must have been a lot of work involved in your repairs.

As I say I'm sure he will be perfectly willing to explain it all to you.

Yeah actually paul quoted me 200-300euros depending on how much time he'd need to spend for adjusting the tappets..

mind you..that was for both banks.. maybe there were some bit that were stuck or something so he had to spend extra time at it? He's generally a sound sound bloke.. I'm sure if you approach him in a nice calm fashion he'll give you a proper explaination..
