Seems to be common from the other topics that FTO's seem to get a bit upset when it comes to pumps and pipes splitting etc. my coolant light started flashing a week ago. the car isnt running hot on the temp gauge but obviously i filled it up anyway. in 3 days it was empty again. filled it with water then which it seems to be holding and took it to the garage earlier today. They told me my pressure cap wasn't sealing it tight enough and to replace this. going back to him now in about half an hour. Sounds from what ye guys are saying though is that it could be pipes or pump. Cause for concern? So many of these mechanics seems like they dont know what they're talking about!
Change the cap first and see if that has an impact. Heres a list of the most likely causes:
1. Seal on radiator cap worn - replace
2. Radiator hoses cracked - check and replace if required
3. Water pump leaking - replace (and do cambelt if if hasn't been changed recently)
4. Heater Matrix burst - check passenger footwell for dampness - dash removal required to replace.
Suggest you don't drive the car until you've diagnosed the problem.
