NO, but holding up the engine the wrong way when removing the gearbox may damage the sump

Urine mittens & Pooey pants!

Declan waters are onto me for the rest of the money the think I owe them. Claiming that they didn't go near the engine oil - but I know that there was normal oil level in the engine two days before they had the car - cause I checked.

Here's how stuff went down.
Car broke down was towed to depot.
Same day I arrange for DW to pick up car from Depot following morning.
Following day I order clucth - shipping address DW
DW Rings saying "sorry our driver is out nothing we can do, will pick up car tomorrow" - My reply is ok - make sure to notify depot.
I call depot to check - nobody told them.
Following day Depot rings me - looking for 30e for storing the car overnight. I pay.
I Instructed DW to not put the car on a lift but simply stick it in a corner as the clucth would be in the post.
3 days pass - DW calls and ask where clutch is cause they have car on lift.
I provide tracking details - item shipped with parcelforce priority service.
after approx 7 days clutch arrives.
Following day DW rings car is ready for pickup - I get quoted a price of 520e
I go to pick car up - Price is actually 750e
As I'd only brought 520e with me I pay that & let them know of my idspleasure - and bugger off.
Upon leaving the business park I note that the speedo isn't working.
Later that day I give them a call letting them know that I think the speed-sensor isn't plugged in - reply - just drop by when convenient - I let them them know that it is not convenient - EVER.

I notice the cars Idle RPM has changed from 800 to 200 - 500rpm.

I continue to drive car - blissfully unaware of the horrors that lie ahead.

Car starts cutting out when I clutch out - or when revs go below 500rpm (idle)

Aprox 1 week after pickup of car I plug in the speedsenor - after getting instructions on the forum (thanks guys!) on the test drive i pass under a bridge and notice a strange clanking echo.

I arrive home & check the oil level.
It's quite low (below minimum) - but not completely empty.
As I have no oil in the house I leave the car sitting for a day to go purchase oil. I do however remove the stepper and give it a wee clean.

I top up oil and sound changes from clanky to a tok-tok-tok type sound.

After 2 weeks of car sitting about Paul Nolan arrives and declares the problem to be more serious.. Big end has gone as a result of the engine not being lubricated.

Now the engine does have a tiny oil leak - but there is no way it would drain it's contents in the space of a month. Oh and the oil I put in is still in there.

My Conclusion - my oil went missing at DW.
Their Conclusion - somebody else drained my car - wasn't them.

Sump looks the same as always I'm afraid..

I'm not sure I have a leg to stand on in this scenario..I'll probably end up having to pay the b-starts..Ugn!

sounds dodge to me, but like you say you'll never be able to prove that you actually had oil in the car before it was dropped off, but one thing is for certain i wouldn't pay the balance, you were quoted 520 and that's the end of it

After they quoted you 520 how are they now justifying charging you 750?

Advance screwed me like that with the gti after I bought it - I bitterly regret not taking them on over it and from what I've learnt since I would have had a very strong case.

AFAIK, if they quote you then they are obliged to contact you to inform you the cost goes up BEFORE completing any work! With that in mind you paid the what they quoted you and they cannot just bump up the cost unless you had an agreement to allow them do this without first contacting you..

At least that's what I was told by a solicitor after my episode with Advance!
