Adding rear wiper, would it be possible?

Postby giuanz » Fri Nov 21, 2008 1:00 am

Hi,

my black beauty comes with no rear wiper and I'd love to have one.
Being it a '96 model there is no hole for the wiper in the rear windscreen at all.

I'm quite of a stubborn fool and I wonder, if possible, how much hassle and money would it be, to do such a mod.

Cheers

It's possible alright. biggest part is swapping the rear window and wiring. I have all the required parts, it'd be major hassle though.

Wiring is already there. So its rear screen and new indicator stalk. As colm said removing the screen is the trickiest bit.

A screen company will remove it for you for around €70. €70 put the new one in.

I reckon by the time you have the parts bought and all do you are looking 350-450

not worth it IMO .
i dont have one and i dont see the need of having one ..
you'd be better of spending the cash on uprated brakes or lowering or any cosmetic mods

I agree with Seb here. I would not be worth the hassle.
But it is the one thing i believe shouls be fitted to all FTO's.

I have had one on all my previous cars and really missed it on the GPX.

I much prefer the look without - case of style over substance. If you're used to having the option, it stands to reason that you would miss the rear wiper function....

I have it on my one - Ive used it a few times..but to be honest... I tend to be accelerating away from what ever is visible through the window there anyways..

its practical in the winter time for reversing out the drive...other than that..

if you still want it and if you can arrange a swap over Id be inclined towards expressing an interest..

Had rear wiper on my first FTO. Didn't have on my second FTO and the FTO looks a lot cleaner without.

Silicon the rear screen and water won't sit on it.

I guess that would work - I used the PIAA stuff that came with the PIAA front wipers on mine. It comes in a silicon application that needs to be rubbed in like wax onto the screen - I imagine it'd last even longer on a rear screen without a wiper to wear it down.
