Fitting a stereo ???

Postby Masa » Tue May 27, 2008 7:07 pm

Ok I already have my first question ^^

I just bought a brand new stereo which will accept my archos.
Full of hope and kinda naive I head toward the car, try to remove the old one ... no way it's screwed..

Ok go back to the shop and buy a set of screwdrivers, head back again to the car, take off the central part and remove the previous player.
Then the feck plugs aren't the same ...

Ok once again go back go back to the shop where I buy a galant adaptator which fits perfectly. Head once again to the car, everything fits perfectly, I can see that the stereo receives power but it just doesn't want to power on ...

There's a strange "Jtune" box and all of this seems weird ... Spent 1 hour on it and there's no way I can make it work ..

So I guess there's some wiring to do ?

Does anyone in Cork or not too far knows how to fit a standard stereo in an FTO?
I'd be extremely grateful if someone is able to show me how to make this bloody stereo working :D

Hi Masa,

there's a Mitsubishi -> ISO adapter which sounds like what you have with the Galant adapter, but once you have that it should be handy.

That Jtune box sounds strange though, might be a frequency shifter - the japs FM starts at about 79 I think it is, but basically you can only pick up Radio 1. The frequency shifter changes that to 89 onwards I think.

It would be on the aerial input, if its the frequency changer... anyway I reckon remove that from the mix.

You say its getting power, so it sounds like it comes on, you just can't pick anything up? or how do you know you have power?

what brand is the stereo? are you sure of the power on procedure?

you may be only receiving the permanent live, the ignition live may have come unplugged?

Well yes I think that I have the ISO adpater and here matches parfectly.

For the power I'm sure as the leds of the stereo are flashing blue in a weird way :o

I'll try once again ^^

it's a JVC

and how can I see the ignition one ? :D

By the way there was with the old stereo a big plug like a Svideo one which can't fit of course the new one ...

Forgot to wire the "masse" ( dunno the english name, you know the black wire you have to get to the car or other black wires )

and by the way the Svideo like plug is the controller for the cd changer
