Immobiliser fitting

Postby optical illusion » Sat Dec 01, 2007 2:06 am

Just curious, is there a place in Ireland that fits immobilisers to FTO's and if so how much does it cost to fit? Would you be better off buying an imm. on ebay and handing it to your mechanic?

I know when I buy one it'll have to have one fitted and if not, I want one fitted. Too much scum in this country.

I'd say the installer would rather be supplying his own unit, chances are, they would be more familar with the fit they supply themselves. Theres plenty of alarm installers around the place, get out the golden pages. Go with a well known brand where possible (i.e. Clifford, Cobra, Toad etc).

Sorry to resurrect this thread but anyone ever get an alarm and immob fitted or can anyone give me a rough price for both? It's the first thing I'd get done, so want to include it in my budget...

Basic alarms will start at €300 and work up to whatever you have!

You can easily spend €1000 on a Clifford alarm and immobiliser, it's nice to have the peace of mind, and the Clifford sticker carries some weight where thieving scrotes are concerned.

I've used JDM systems (Toad) and they're very good, €500 should be enough to get you a good alarm fitted properly.

as in using a Clifford immobiliser with a non-clifford alarm?

I had Clifford BlackJax on my last FTO, here's how it works:

Bit of a pain having to input a code, but it makes the car nigh on impossible to steal, even if someone takes your keys.

the alternative is a keyfob immobiliser that you touch against a contact on the dash before you start up,

I've heard of those code ones, they're meant to be great alright.

I dunno, I read somewhere on this forum that they should be seperate for a reason I can't remember why but it seemed valid... maybe not a seperate brand, ack...!

Sorry to bump up again, but I got a quote for a Cobra alarm from CarCom Limerick, E320 for both, which isn't bad at all. For a Meta (never heard of them though) you're looking at 380.

Leave it in for 4 hours and then it's wham bam thank you maam.

We've a Meta (Italian brand) in the GX, its a decent enough alarm with surprisingly small keyfobs! Cobra is better known, suggest you get the model number of each and compare the features.
