In my sleepy state i went down to get some petrol and was stopped at a gardai checkpoint. He took my details and said to produce my insurance certificate at local police station.

Before i continue i should mention that my excuse was my road tax is out of date due to sheer laziness which was what i thought but didn't mean to say that!!! Arghh
So after jotting down my details he was lile produce your insurance and on your way.
That was it... i said so is that it??? No fine? What? Ah you'll receive a summons in the post... Thinking on my way home that its just a fine, but he's probably meaning a summons to court, CRAP! I actually have a genuine excuse for not paying the road tax, everytime i go to pay it i've some other bill that needs to be paid and i can't afford it!

So excuse me for being a bit uneducated in this area but does that mean i have to go to court in front of a judge n all?

That's odd, usuually you'd get a fine first and then if you refuse to pay it or think you didn't deserve it, then you'd be summonsed to court. He's probably just playing with your head or exercising his 'power' on you, or maybe he just wants to give you a bit of a scare so you'll pay it...
