The dealer and solicitor will probably charge me for their time too. This is just a pain in the ...... Like I haven't enough to be at.
I'm gonna ring the lad I bought it off tomorrow and see what the story is.
Guys this sounds like a wind up from candid camera or something. I just can't believe that all this is necessary. Especially you dragonheart.
When I bought my FTO it hadn't been taxed for years. As I recall there was some delay in obtaining the Cert of ownership. I rang the crew in Shannon to enquire and they said "sure that car has not been taxed since.. whenever". I said yes but that's while under the care of the previous owner -not my issue. I can't remember if I had to fill in a form but if I did, it certainly did not involve any main dealers, solicitors, gardai, clergy men, commissioner of oaths, or me giving a DNA sample
Simple fact of the matter is that you (sinlessgunner) should have completed the change of ownership section on the back of the certificate of ownership. It sounds to me that neither you nor the vendor has completed this form....Big No, No. And now you are claiming ownership of a vehicle, with no supporting documentation, that is therefore not leagally yours, and to complicate matters, it has not been taxed for ages. Doubtless this has raised alarm bells in the vehicle licensing office.
