Hey Guys, am over in the States at the minute, decided to buy me an iphone, the phone was bought locked to AT&T network, apparently I just realised that I cannot activate it as it requires few info. (e.g. social security no). the questions are can I get it unlock when I return back to Ireland without activation? has anyone done similar thing before?
Another option I have is to return it back to the store, however I need to pay 10% of the total cost for restocking, help please.

Why the hell would you need a social security number on a phone. That makes things very awkward.

Yeah, I was told by the AT&T sales guy that I will surely lose some functions and risk permanent damage to the phone if I unlock it, anyway, I have returned the phone back but the c*$t charged me 10% for restocking.

Why the heck did you return it ? iPhones can be unlocked in about 5 mins and if you update software then you just need to unlock again ?

Even selling here at a profit woudl have been a better option
