My FTO Deregistration forms

Postby baby_mikey » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:28 am

Hi guys,

I bought my FTO as a CAT C write off, I have no history with it or anything. All I have is an MOT/NCT and the log book.
I have been trying to find out how to obtain further information about the car. So far from MOTINFO.GOV.UK I have found out all the past MOT passes and fails since 2006 (probably when it first became electronic) and from COMPLETEFTO.COM.AU i have managed to find the exact date of manufacture.

What i really want now is to find out where i can get the deregistration form from Japan which i am hoping will tell me the mileage the car had on it when it came into the country and give me some more 'official' proof of when the car was manufactured. Does anyone know how i can get hold of this document?

Apologies if it has been discussed before, I did do a quick search for it.

Thanks in advance

Mike

When I got mine imported it came with the deregistration form as part of the paperwork, the paperwork was sent to me in a seperate package by normal post and then I sent it all the forms that I had to to the customs officials on the port I think it was.

Thanks for your response

Unfortunately my car was 'first registered in the UK' in 1999 and was not imported by me. The bloke i bought it off (a year ago) had no information on the car and some attempts i made to contact the owner before him didnt get me anywhere.

The car has had 5 previous owners in the UK so i have little or no chance in finding out where the car was imported to......

Any idea where it came from in Japan? They usually come from auction or dealers and they have to have copies of the dereg documents. Long shot but might find something on it. Trouble is it seems like a massive amount of trouble just to find out a bit more about the car, is it worth it at the end of the day?
Oh the other thing is, the dereg documents are probably in Japanese I think, trying to remember if mine were but I think most of the ones I received were in Japanese, apart from the bill of lading and a few other ones.

Ah well I didnt realise that the documents are in Japanese but that would make sense as they are from Japan

Unfortunately i really do not know anything more about the car or anyway of getting that sort of information.

Well I would like to know how many miles the car has done. As it currently in miles and i have no idea when the conversion from kilometers would have been done. Would just be nice to know
Also the reason for wanting a more 'official' peice of evidence that the car was built in 1994 is so i can have the CAT test argument with the MOT tester. My car was sold to me with a DeCat pipe and no CAT so to save myself the money of buying one i wanted to argue that my car shouldnt require a CAT test.

Thanks for your help

I'm not sure if it would be enough "proof" for a tester, but the date of manufacture is printed on the seatbelt label.
Also, when my car was converted from kilometres to miles, the mileage was written inside the dial housing (could be just mine though).

Thanks Bernard,

I'm just trying to do my best to avoid spending 300-400 on a new CAT and Lambda sensor

Well I managed to source a CAT from a breakers for a good price, as i was advised it was not worth trying to argue with the MOT/NCT tester.

I was also told that the sensor on the CAT is not the lambda sensor as i was led to believe and its infact just a temperature sensor incase it gets too hot. Can anyone confirm this?
Also i didnt realise i could just use a universal lambda sensor (that could be useful in the future)!

I think finding the deregistration forms or any other history with the mileage on is going to be a lost cause so i will give up on that, but it would have been nice to be able to claim my car had done less than the 120k miles on the clock with some sort of evidence to back it up.

Cheers for your help

The dereg forms come in Japanese but you generally get a translated one into english too, or at least I did when I asked about it.

Where on completefto can you find the exact date of manufacture of the car? Tried looking but half the menus do nothing. Would be curious when exactly mine was made, first registered in Feb.

I think this is the location for the exact date of manufacture - well i think its down to the nearest week.

This is true. The CAT has a CAT temp sensor in it that goes into the underbody of the car. The lambda sensor goes into the downpipe near the flexi section. The temp sensor has no adverse effects on anything in the car. All you'll have is a red light on your dash.
