Personally I'd hold out for a manual.
If you're bringing one in from England, be sure and do it before July

Dan, you really need to test drive both models to get a feel for the differences, everybody will have their own opinion. If you want mine, don't discount the tip - there are a whole lot more tips on the market (approx split 70% tip, 30 % manual) which means you'll have a wider choice of car. Tip are great for city / lazy driving, I've been driving one for the past 5 years and I've no regrets. Look for form of proof that the gearbox oil has been changed regulary.

Manuals are a quicker to 60, I'd say theres half a second in it when comparing like models. The manual will give you better performance and tends to be easier to sell on - we seem to have a bit of a hangup about auto boxes in this country.

Whatever you choose, remember its an FTO! In either tip or manual form, the V6's are a hoot to drive and you won't be dissapointed either way. A GPX is top of the range in terms of standard extras but many GRs\GXs come with the same trim and factory options. Wait till the Feb meet - this will be a great opportununity for you to see some cars in the flesh and make some comparisons.

That's a great bit of advice.... Might do that. Will also have more to spend on the car too.

Dan as always cj has it down pat, he won't steer you wrong. Don't discount a Tip my first fto was a Tip gpx it gave me 5 years great service, yes i did have to change a tip box on it but the only reason the box failed was because i couldn't get my hands on dextron III fluid and used Dextron II as a stop gap big mistake on my part would have been better of with old D III as the DII shagged the box but a Tip wil serve you well if you look after it the box i fitted came from a rear ended gpx and its still going strong for the new owner (thou when i sold it to him i did give him 60ltrs of D III fluid) so he shouldn't have any problems either and trust me that was a high milage car i did 35,000 miles a year. but since your in klms there now thats about 60k klms so it goes to show they can take it.

Yes i.m driving a manual now for over 4 years and the difference is noticeable to a certain extent but not all in favour of the manual, the tip is great in city driving and log distance driving.

But if it is a manual you want an it if it doesn't have to be a gpx check out danny's car in the for sale section.

the manual shift is very quick on the tip. much more so than some modern boxes. It's obviously nowhere near as quick as a DSG box, but for an auto - even by todays standards it's very good.

Dare I say it but a manual non Mivec can be quicker to 100 kms! As Mivec was meant for higher end speed. Test drive a few different cars if you can, you might drive 2 Mivecs be it both tip or manual and one car will feel quicker than the other. A while back on a rolling road day there were big differences in bhp figures, it just depends on the individual car and your ins quote for non Mivec will free up a few quid for the 591 euros road tax maybe? Just a thought!

My first FTO is a non Mivec and still is! I drove and looked at 17 (yes 17) mainly Mivec manuals and tips plus one GPvR so trust me they aint soo bad! Good luck with your choice, you'll know it when you find it.
