(UltraLite) Rims..

Postby Muad_dib77 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 3:45 pm

Just wondering if anybody has had any experience with this particular make of wheels..

I'm considering a set of their D1 17s weight wise they're supposed to be on par with Rotas.. but as I know now a wheel isn't just a wheel I thought I'd ask here 1st..

(Other candidates include Rota Torque and OZ ultra leggera)

I have Rota Torques on the VR-4 - nice wheel, I like 'em. When I was looking for a set, I also considered the Ultralites - they're highly regarded.

All nice rims - down to personal preference really.
Will also depend on the kit on your FTO - whether you are going for a drift/track look, a bling look or a more refined classic look.

Yeah I'm not quite sure what I'm aiming for - I think I'll need to do some photo shopping in order to get my head around it :-)

I got these..

Image

..they have 235/45 Toyo tyres on them..

I know they're not going to be as light as the Rotas..but I also know they're not going to be as heavy as a set of 18" Inovites that I had before..
Also they're a reputable brand, so I know they're not going to be cr@p..

There's a teensy bit of Kerb rash on them so they're getting refurbed.....I'm thinking satin or a matte black would look nice - I'll need to see them with the car though..

I agree, good choice. The Enkeis really suit the FTO.

Excellent choice Muad, that's three of us now.

As I said on another thread, if you come across another set for sale I'll split the cost with you.
It'd be nice to have a full size spare.

Thanks guys..

As it happens part of my current job is to look after car-parts sellers from the UK on eBay - so whilst I was reviewing an account I spotted he had these puppies listed.. 20minutes later I had bought them :-)
I'm in a position where I have an insight into the processes of the seller so I know they're not going to be buckled or anything nasty like that so I was more than happy to pay up..

What's really great is that he doesn't yet know that I'm the buyer - so he'll get a surprise when he prints the shipping label.. :-)

Shane - I'm going to visit my car over the weekend - apparently the color is now on and there's a chance of delivery early next week..

Here's a link to the sellers eBay shop..

As per the sellers description there's a few kerb marks - nothing too nasty - but they're there..
Will get them refurbed - defo..

Nops - my brother was over from Denmark the last two weeks so I haven't bothered going to visit her.. I did call the painter yesterday though and he says that all he's left to do is clear it and stick it all back together..

that means it'll take another couple of months I guess.. ;-)

Seriously he mentioned that I should be able to pick it up this weekend.. but I've heard that before..so..not getting my hopes up - oh and I'm in Cork for the weekend anyways...

You're one patient individual Janus, I couldn't wait that long for my car, I'd miss it too much, granted you've got the OPC but still!!

I've been very lucky in that my other half is very very patient with me a lets me drive her car - she even let me take it on the "track" in Limerick..Fantastic.

Lately I'm driving the lexus though - and trying to sell it which is proving very difficult.. Nobody is buying cars these days.. I thought I'd have it gone at this stage..

Anyways - back on topic...

So what's the crack with powder coating - the material that get's coated has to be metal of some sort - right? I'm just thinking that if I do get the kerbing on the enkei-s fixed powercoat probably wouldn't bond to it as the refurbing would probably involve somesort of fancy hard wearing filler.

Is paint & clearcoat a better option for me?

I wonder...

Collins Engineering in Bray are meant to be good when it comes to wheel repairs etc, www.wefixalloywheels.com , I don't know if they'd do the powder coating as well but worth a shot I suppose.

Thanks Dave..

Emailed them with the pictures (see above) attached..Now for the wait :-)

** Update - got back quote of 400squids **

Now starting research on how to spruce them up myself.. If anybody here as experience in that area suggestions are most welcome..

** Update 2 **

Might well take some inspiration from this guide here..
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/realwhda.html

Of course It doesn't make sense to do this while the wheels are still on the car like in the guide...
