Renewel in from QD

Just got my renewel in from QD, I'm sorry to say its 776 euro FC (GPX, 31yrs, 4 yrs NCB, full licence). Why am I not happy? Because I really want to get away from QD and I would be surprised if that quote will be matched. I'll report back on my findings.

I'd totally love quinn if they'd just let me put a second car on the policy ... show of b'stards!!! Insurance ombuds shud sort them out!!

I'm with you on the moving companies CJ, got my QD quote (€620) and took it to AXA, they told me with all honesty to take the quote as no insurance company would even get near to it!

Update, I've contacted the following companies so far:

Direct:

QD - 776 euro
AXA - no quote
Allianz - no quote
FDB - no quote
Hibernian - no quote

Thru brokers:

Deerings: 1410 euro (St Pauls)
123.ie - no quote
insure.ie - no quote
O'Reilly Cullen - 1650 euro (St Pauls)

Looks a bit depressing so far, dosn't it? I'm gonna hound a few more brokers today and see what comes back although I can't help but think I'm wasting my time.

That's crazy - they just don't want to quote the FTOs at all - even with all your years of ncb and stuff??

Got my renewal quote from 123.ie last week and it went up from 990 to 1350!!!!!!

Went on line as a new customer and got my old quote of 990.

Makes no sense, and they were about as helpful as a hole in the head when questioned about it.

Got a second quote through britton insurance though, who gave me 949, so I took it.

Unfortunately, these are the only realistic quotes I was able to get.......the only other place I could get a quote from was AXA, but that was 2k+.......

Without doubt the major drawback of owning an FTO or an import.......

I'm surprised you're having that much trouble getting different quotes, although it is a couple of years since I've been able to go shopping around...

i am with 123.ie and my quote went up to €1253 from €990. on their web site they were quoting €750. rang them up and complained. got it for the €750

Same with myself and 123, my renewal was quote €1123, up from €990 and when I rang up they told me 'oh we can offer you the €990 again'. Maybe its because I had that policy (at €990) the last time round.

CJ could you get any quote from 123 or is it just because you didnt want a quote with a high excess?

To be honest I dont know what I'd do without 123 and Xcess

I just got a decent quote of Quinn Direct too. €590 for third party fire and theft but am tempted with their offer of €820 for fully comp with protected no claims.
It's a lot better than last year when Quinn Direct were among the countless others who wouldn't quote the FTO and I ended up paying €1570 to Allianz who quoted me cos I was a current customer of theirs.

As an aside seeing as unless I can get another quote to match the above I'll be moving to quinn direct why are you guys so eager to get away from them?? (PM me please if it's something your afraid of saying on a public forum)

TBH, I'm not interested in high excess policy on the daily driver - I have a seperate policy on the RX-7 (850 euro premium) with a 4k excess...

I thinks its common knowledge that QDs customer service sucks, they also have a set administration charge of 50 euro any time you want to change anything on the policy. I've heard a couple of stories regarding QD paying out on claims without informing the policy holder.

A friend of mine had his micra banger nicked from his undergourd car park - scummers drove it around the corner and into a pole. Wrote it off..

Now this heap of junk was a 94 - so it wasn't worth much..

QD sent a cheque for 1400e which is fine - here's the dodgy bit..

they'd included a letter stating that if he was to pay back the full amount before taking a new policy with them - they'd reinstate his NCB - how dodgy does that sound???

Insurance is a funny game - I got quoted 800 FC with Axa on a 330ci today. But they wouldn't quote me on an Alfa GT 1.9JTD becuase it was a group 11 car and you have to be over 35.... madness. In addition I got quoted 1400 for an S3 - so the cheapest quote comes on the more powerful (230bhp) and probably expensive car and the one they wouldn't quote on is a 150bhp diesel - ...... go figure!!

I think I remember hearing that the law was changing to allow you to shop outside Ireland for your quote.

Anyone else hear this?
