GPvR fan fix

Postby finers » Fri Jan 30, 2009 5:22 pm

Ok seen three people including myself who had this problem so finally got to the bottom of it.

Problem: on the Version R theres no climate control and the fan speed will only blow on speed 3 & 4,

The V'r fan speed is controlled by a rotary switch and not a variable resistor which is usually the norm,

I took out the whole unit out of the dash bit of a pig but you could do i w/o removing it.

The problem is the switch itself and nothing to do with the motor or resistors in the motor.

As you can see i drew out the switch positions for the problem settings,

on switch 1 contacts 2 to 6 where not making,
switch 2 contacts 3 to seven was not making either, i figured this by switching certain combinations with wire until i found them,

I tried numerous of solutions including soldering the worn sections but the switch is just bad quality and would expect it would fail some time down the line on all V'rs if used regularly.

Don't think ill be able to source a new switch so im going to buy one from RS electronics.

I'd be surprised if that switch isn't used in other Mitsubishis, I'd be looking at broken Colts and Lancers if a part isn't available new.

I had a look on CAPS and they dont list a seperate part number for that switch, only complete unit. But a Colm said I would bet a colt, galant or lancer would have the same.

Of to the breakers I reckon and snoop around

Ye rang up Mitsubishi not sure if any1 else had dealings with them but they were very unhelpful and am still waiting for them to get back to me re-part.

I have a friend trying to source a switch for me.
