Postby d_dan » Thu Mar 20, 2008 10:20 pm

Hey giys iv a mad open grill on my car and i was thinking...of getting an intercooler (i know thats for Turbo and supercharged cars) but rather than doing the stupid thing and having it just mounted but to run it through to the air box...

just sounds like it'll actually weigh the car down and make you look like you want people to think have a turbo!

No advantage in fitting an intercooler to an NA engine. You'll just mess with the air flow. Suitable for Turbos and supercharged engines as it needs a blower to suck the air.

If you really want to cool the intake air on an Na - I would suggest NOS - however a more everyday solution would be a Cold air (ram air effect) induction.

^^ what he said. Not sure why you would want to waste money on an IC in an NA motor. Spend the money on reliability mods insteads.

I have seen an air intake system that looked like an intercooler for sale. Good while back though! Looked kinda cool but I don'tknow if it would suit the FTO

Intercooler on a non-turbo FTO?

Rather silly...but then again I put an induction kit on my lawn mower

Now THAT is crazy - I love it!
in Denmark Lawnmower racing is pretty serious - a friend of mine was overtaken by a guy doing over 80kmph on his mower once..

Anyways - back on topic.

Dan I don't think you're gonna see any performance gains from an intercooler - but I'd like to be proven wrong..

..I thought your car came with one of those ARC chamber things?

If you want more power from the current unit I'd seriously consider NOS - but there are other things you can look at as well..Turbo'ing is possible - but costly..very very costly - as it's not a simple matter of sticking a turbo under the bonnet and hoping for the best - atleast not if you'd like to keep her running..

Or you could simply do an engine swap - apparently a VR4 unit fits - ish.. (do a search here and on the ftooc.co.uk I'm sure you'll find more info)

Personally - if I had the eurobobs at hand I'd look at optimising things like a lightened flywheel - fuel supply upgrades - gearbox ratios - proper light weight wheels, with diameter appropriate to need.(acceleration/top speed?) (if you don't already have them) - ecu upgrade to cope with fuel supply upgrades...but then different peeps do things different ways :-)

If you do try the intercooler thing let's know how you get on..oh and keep in mind that if you add weight - you need to add even more power to make up for it..

How about super-charging as an alternative to turboing?
Is it possible?

Any really big changes you make to power you have to balance them out everyhere else, suspension, axles, and stuff like that were designed for what the original car was. Adding a lot more power means a lot of others things have to brought up to match the new power output.
