The format for Japfest is similar to that of Custom & Performance, there is show & shine, drag strip, drifting, trade stands etc. Where Japfest has a huge advantage is in the drag strip, this is on the straight on the Mondello track, so is a proper surface, it also means that the spectators can get much closer to the action.
For FTO drivers living in the Leinster area (all counties are welcome of course) this is on your doorstep, and is a garunteed good day out. The drag strip costs €75 to do, so is a little more expensive than Limerick (€50) but you're talking a completely different track.
The Show & Shine part of Japfest is being looked after by Modified Motors

Mondello Park’s annual celebration of Japanese car culture, ‘Mondello Jap-Fest’, is being readied for its September date which will include the final rounds of the Prodrift Super Series and Irish Time-Attack championship.
The on-track activity at ’Mondello Jap-Fest’ sets it apart from any other Irish show and makes it one of the most important events of the year for modified car enthusiasts. This year the Drifters and Time-Attack competitors will fight it out to be the stars of the track with both preparing to put out their best line-up’s of the season. The Prodrift Super Series returns to Ireland for its second visit following a successful outing at Punchestown in May and the popular series will have its fifth and final round at Mondello with an impressive line-up of Irish, UK and European drift stars expected.
Time-Attack is enjoying its best season to date and with a number of exciting new cars being readied, and planning on making their debut at Mondello’s Jap-Fest, the championship could well be saving its best till last. As with 2008 a number of top quality UK entries are expected to boost the field still further and make Mondello Jap Fest 2009 the biggest Time-Attack event ever seen in Ireland. These new arrivals and UK entries, while fighting for honours on the day, will not get in the way of the championship battle which looks like going down to the wire once again.
While Time-Attack and Drifting will head the track action the show will also feature drag racing, ‘track day’ sessions, Irelands best Japanese cars, trade stands, Autotesting and a host of car clubs and web site stands. For the first time the show will also include classic machinery with owners of retro Japanese cars also being accommodated amongst the modern stars. A number of other attractions are also being arranged and details of these will be announced closer to the event.
Mondello Jap-Fest 2009 takes place on Sunday September 6th and tickets will shortly go on sale at advance booking discounted prices direct from the circuit. For further updates on the Mondello Jap-Fest line-up and booking information keep an eye on Mondellopark.ie/japfest
