camshaft cog

The car in for a oil leak to be fixed and I have been told that when he removed the timing cover one of the cogs had a piece broke of it,
how would this have happened.

any ideas

he say it will take weeks to order the part.

MIVEC Camseal leak by the sounds of things, common problem. Never heard of a chipped cam wheel, I'm sure you could throw in a second hand one - pm steelroe.

I have seen this before buy it was a mechanic changing the cambelt that caused the problem.

This chap says when he removed the cover a piece of the cog fell out, would the engine still run with a piece out of the cog.
I would have though it would have damaged the belt, but there are no marks on the belt. :smt021 :cry:

Very hard to fined a good mecanic around Sligo, all I want is to be told the truth, can thay do the job in question.

All I can say is "the belt did not do the damage to the cam sprocket".
I would prob ably cut into the belt overr time. Does the break look shiny and new (providing someone has not rubbed their dirty hand to the broken portion to make it look like it has been there for a while)
