Door cards

Postby dcfto » Wed Aug 13, 2008 8:41 pm

Hi

already had a thread with a stereo question which has since been answered here. (for those of you scratching your heads who had already seen it!)

So another question, have already ordered leatherette seat covers and a few other bits to fix up the interior.

I was looking at getting the door cards done (probably leather or similar material). would this be expensive to get done professionally, or would I be able to order material and do them myself?

Thanks,
dc

not sure it's quite that simple. CD changer will be strange JDM stuff. Bernard managed to get his changer to work with a new headunit, so it may be possible.

the door cards are tricky enough, the shape is curved, and simply sticking them on won't give a great finisg, you have to get the edges just right too.

I have a set of door cards with black vinyl instead of material for sale if you're going for black leather. they're fitted to GS and GPVR models as far as I know.

Cheers colm,

I've actually gone for cream leather (sounds tacky but looked pretty nice on ricerockets e-bay site). Dont think the black cards would suit.
Knowing my luck if I had have ordered black leather interior you would have had cream leather cards lying around.

would you have a ballpark figure of how much they cost to get done or even details of where i could look?

Thanks,

dc

For the leatherette seats it looks really nice once fitted, but we spent 4 hours being 2 doing it, and buy more than 100 of these plastic things (forgot the name)

I just bought 100 and did it but 20 more would have been great.

I've 'leathered' door cards in the past - its a bit tricky but do-able. You need a steady hand, a sharp blade and some decent spray adhesive. If I was using leatherette, I'd be inclined to get it warmed up first (i.e. hot press, radiator with a towel underneath) to make it a bit more pliable.

The CD changer was aftermarket and the same make as the headunit, all I had to do was plug it in.

Sorry lads no offense meant when i siad 'sounds tacky'...i was just gauging from peoples responses when i was talking about the colour scheme i picked, different story when you see it though, really suits the car (hence why i opted for it!).

Masa - what plastic things are they, do they come with the covers or do they have to be bought seperatly?
Did you take the seats out when you were putting yours on?

I was going to do before, during and after pics and post them for anyone thats thinkin of doin it as well...

Seb- looks like a nice job, you do all that yourself? much work involved?
I was looking to do the curved part of the door where the handle is.

Cheers lads[/quote]

they are called cable ties .. i think you have to source them yourself

it's nearly impossible to fit them without taking the seat out of the car . remember you have to strip the seats of old covers .

was a DIY job over a weekend
now it looks a bit different though .
you will need a very good adhesive
it's hard enough to do the curved bit in 1 piece !

EDIT : CJ we posted almost the same time ;)
