Subwoofer and navigation system

Postby ultrakupra » Thu Nov 11, 2010 4:01 pm

Is it worth to install a subwoofer having the audio played through a navigation system? I have a 2DIN GPS with CD player and Ipod support, but a friend of mine told me that if you dont use an audio deck its not worth to install a subwoofer&amp.
What do you guys think?
Cheers.

Does your system have a pre out for a sub?

My view is that theres little value in installing a sub on its own, regardless of the source audio device. What are you looking for, attention or good quality audio? If its the latter, take a holistic approach and install a 4 channel amp for the front speakers, stick decent 6 x 9's in the rear (direct to head unit) and good components up front. Bridge 2 of the amp channels and hook up your sub. Think about the book space issue also. Pic of my old install from a few years back, all kit bought off ebay apart from the custom sub box (home made).

Thanks guys.
CJ that setup looks sick :D
The thing is that when i hear music a bit loud, for example, the bass sounds horrible,so a friend of mine told me that a sub with an amp inside(a small one,not a big deal) will do the job,but im not sure, since i dont know if the audio deck affects the quality of the music or if its the same that a navigation/audio deck. :?:

Well guys,i asked to a few of Fto owners and they recommended me to just change the default speakers for high quality aftermarket ones, since i dont listen rap or hip hop, they said to me that i dont need a subwoofer,i listen metal and rock,so i dont need those extra loud basses. lol
What do you think? what speakers do you recommend?

I've got good speakers in mine, don't know what type as they were always in it, haven't got a subwoofer and find that they handle very good when the volume is up. Its a lot of death metal that I listen to and never found the need for extra bass. Upgraded speakers should be fine for you if thats what you listen to mostly.

Yeah, death metal,nu-metal,and all that kind of music Image.Sometimes i play the music so loud and the sound becomes a bit 'dirty',i will ask to a car sound shop and change the speakers.

Thanks to all of you who tried to help. :D
