Front brake disc/pad recommendations?

Postby Mustang » Thu Oct 07, 2010 11:49 am

When I purchased my car it had EBS groved and dimpled discs. When they warped I replaced them with camskills upgrade discs (think they were grooved and dimpled at the time), along with EBC green stuff, I got about six months out of them before they started to display the symptoms of a warping. Last decemeber the NCT threw up a seized caliper -uneven caliper movement was causing uneven disc and pad ware -causing the same symptoms as warped discs.
Fair enough the caliper was at fault. I got the calipers reconditioned, upgraded SS brake hoses, new camskill discs (grooved and cross drilled this time) along with EBC green stuff pads. About five months and maybe 5k km in they started the display the signs of warping  This is just not an acceptable life span for a set of discs -currently with about 7-8k km on them and getting worse. (Now I've checked the passanger side caliper and it's fine, I've yet to check the drivers side -but given the reconditioning I have no reason to suspect the caliper). On the face of it, it seems that that these discs are just not up to the job.

Can anyone suggest or recommend a brake combo for a GPX (no big brake conversions please -I don't have the interest or the budget).
What options are out there?
Other than camskill and these options, is there anything else available? Has anoyone tried any of these discs?
Also on the pad front, anyone tried EBC yellow, blue or red stuff? Just wondering if it's worth my while upgrading from the usual green stuff?

I can't comment on the discs but as for the pads, I use Ferodo.
I don't have a standard setup but quality is quality (not cheap though).

You said it! My problem is that the pads are outlasting the discs -which shouldn't be the case. So I don't have an issue with the pads as such -but as they will have to be replaced along with the discs (again) I was just looking for input.

I wouldn't be buying anymore discs until I found the cause of the problem.
Maybe something to do with the hub since you've sorted out the calipers?

I can't really throw any light on the source of the problem, but as per Bernard, I wouldn't go getting more discs until you can figure out what's causing the issue. Seems peculiar though. Could it be anything other than the pads and discs? Is the caliper slightly out of plumb with the disc or something like that?

I have yellow stuffs, great for track days but never fooking again will I get them. Phenomenal dust out of them.

Derek swears by pagids on the elise but they are bloody expensive.
