Problems with stereo need auto electrician in Limerick

Postby cullen5998 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 9:30 pm

I put in a new stereo and now have no power going to it. I got a friend to double check that everything was connected ok and all the fuses checked. Anyone know a good auto electrician in Limerick city who wont fleece me?

Its earthed alright, its just the wiring was a bit of a mess.
Looks like there was two stereos or something in it before i got it.
Hopefully get it sorted tomorrow.
Its a pain though! Hopefully the auto electrician can get it working tomorrow.

There was a TV and a sat nav as well as the CD stereo.
I've the other half of the system still at home on the shelf gathering dust.
It was an od system and needed a change - I ripped it out while on one of my weight saving spree's.

I was thinking it must have been something like that alright. Myfeckn fto - You wouldnt know what a red and black wire with a button on top is for near the fusebox beside driver feet? Its just the wires were a bit confusing seemed to be so many of them. I think one power wire was split into two or something and now theres no power. I took out most of the unnecessary wires, must have taken out a needed one though

That button might explain a few old 1/4 mile times

That red and black wire with a switch was just for bypassing the TV function to allow you to view on the move AFAIK.
(at Bernard) The 1/4 mile times were just pure talent.

I'd be absolutely no help to you with regard to wiring for car stereos tbh - is it just your stereo that isn't working - e.g. do you still have central locking/interior light etc?

Just going from memory here - but isn't the fuse from the stereo in the fuse box under the bonnet rather than in the board in the cabin? I'd say thats your most likely culprit if you've been messing around behind the dash. Its generally a 15A fuse.

Got it sorted Yay! It was the fuse under the bonnet. Plus a rear speaker was shorting the rest of the speakers so thats fixed now.
Went to o Meara autos on the Ennis road, he had it fixed in 10 minutes. :D

Sorry I can't be much help here Tom.
I think the guy who had it after Shane and before me had some other kind of or sound system in as well. I thought about replacing the stereo too and the mass of wires I found was unbelieveable. I ended up leaving the old stereo in it, but chased and removed about 3.7million miles of wiring that went under the carpets, to the boot etc, but ultimately ended up going nowhere.

There was so many wires alright! I took out most of the ones that i could see that were not needed so the wiring is much less of a mess now. Got the stereo working now anyway so all is good. Hopefully wont need to go near there again :)

Paul Nolan had a good old laugh when he took out my dash to do the heater matrix - described it as a birds nest of wiring full of connectors and junction boxes :o

It's been so long since I've been in there I'm afraid to take the thing apart to do a tidy up.
