Removing factory HIDs

Postby Dragonheart » Wed Dec 31, 2008 2:01 pm

Tried taking out my HIDs and ballast to see which was causing my headlight to not work over christmas, major difficulty, especially getting at the screws for releasing the back cover to access the unit. Do I have to take out the headlght unit to get at the ballast and the bulbs or is there an easier way to do it. They are factory HIDs and not ones fitted aftermarket with the ballast down below the unit.
Thanks.

even the factory setup for normal bulbs is tricky on an FTO. taking off the bumper or loosening it on one side isn't a huge job though.

So I have to take off the bumper to change the bulbs?! Thats a bit of an excessive way to get at the bulbs isnt it? Would it be just easier to take out the whole headlight unit instead of taking off the bumper, or do I have to take off the bumper for that too?

bumper has to come forward to take the headlight unit out. given that the ballast isn't exactly accessible, I'd say removing the unit and inspecting would be the sensible option.
