'99 red FTO- Coolmine on Friday

Postby Colin C » Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:07 am

Seen a '99 Red FTO pulling into Fast fit in Coolmine Ind estate on friday at about 14:15. Female dark haired driver. Went to say hello but she just dropped car off and jumped into a waiting silver 206. I had just dropped mine into Dave McCann's to get new tyres.

Hiya,

That was me, sorry didn't even notice you there, I was stressed out of my head and on my lunch, had to be back work for half two.

Maybe you can help me, I hit a pothole on my way to work last week and thought I had damaged the shocks coz there was an awful noise everytime I went over a bump. Fast fit said it wasnt the shocks it was some kind of bussles??? or bars under the wheel. Now the back wheel is making noise.

Have the car booked into michael Tynan Motors for wens morning but they will prob cost a mint.

Any better advice.

Yeah, don't drop the car in Michael Tynan, he'll charge you a fortune!! I'm assuming that by bussles you mean bushes, if an anti-roll bar bush or droplink is knackered then it won't be expensive to fix. I would stay well away from Fast Fit as well, they're a shower of chancers in my experience. If you're in the area, you could do worse that to drop up to Discount Tyre and Auto Services in Ballycoolin (Rosemount Ind Est), they're a good bunch of guys and they'll give you honest advice.

Rang them,

Have it booked in for the morning.

Going to get a full sevice done and the timing belt checked also coz I bought the car straight from the docks and have only changed the stereo and the battery since I got it.

Not sure if I need the belt done as the car says it only has 61,000km on it but you know yourself it was prob clocked before it came over.

Remembered the names of the parts I need, Front anti Roll bar links(2) and Bushes (2).

Thanks again

Cath

When you say an awful noise, is it a rattle, bang, 'knocking on wood' sound? Does it just make the noise once or keep doing it for a few seconds?

Cheers

Cath, just to clarify, which garage and Jap parts supplier are you referring to? I'd be inclined to buy the parts myself, you'll get them a lot cheaper that way (although I understand that you probably don't want to go to the hassle!)

Hi,

CJ rang the garage you told me about and they said there was a jap parts store next to them...

I know it prob would be cheaper to get them myself but to tell you the truth, your right its too much hassle, i would only have to go and try and get someone to fit them.

The way it is now I just want the car fixed ASAP, everytime I drive it now i'm just waiting for the wheel to fall off.

And the car needed a sevice anyway so may aswell get it all sorted at once.

They are a decent crowd, I was just questioning the Jap parts supplier quote. I wouldn't call them a garage, they're a tyre supplier that undertake some mechanical work, suspension work wouldn't be a problem to them. If you need to get any sort of engine work done (i.e cambelt change), can I suggest you speak with Paul Nolan in Artane (086 2649884), he's an excellent mechanic who's worked on loads of FTOs over the years, he does tend to have a 2 week waiting list though.
