Reverse lights problem

Postby escu_calin » Thu Nov 12, 2009 5:16 pm

The car is a 95GR non mivec; manual transmission
So far i checked the bulbs; the corresponding fuse under the wheel; and what i deduced from this forum as being the reverse switch situated under the main air conduct that leads to the throttle body and right on top of the clutch !

I need confirmation that the reverse switch is the one described above(or if any of u have a picture of the engine bay pointing to it), because i verified it with a micrometer and it does not close the circuit in Reverse gear.
What troubles me is that i tried to close the circuit inside the connector as the switch would do ; but no effect ! seems like multiple failures in a exaggerated simple circuit. and what i don't know is where the engine switch cable is joining the dashboard wiring.

Please advise further !??

after further investigation seems like the problem is the switch inside the gear-box which does not close the circuit.

i tried unscrew it but dont have the proper tool , because the 24 key wont fit in there , and stucks in the wall near the screw; and a tubular key wont reach the actual screw because of the connector..

a bit of a crysis ; but hey .. maybe il get it out somehow and try to repair it .. what can be bugged in a lousy switch? anyone has seen/recon one ?

fixed problem

reasons:

defective conector(loose and oxidated contact)
defective reverse gear sensor(any from mitsubishi eclipse, galant fits)

Hadn't spotted this, had to replace the reverse light switch myself a few months back. Good to see you got it sorted.

I have this problen now, the bulb and fuse is fine and was told it was the connector near the fuse box,
Was this your problem, and are you able to tell me how you fixed it and how much the connector cost!!!

pictures would be very useful.

sorry for late answer

My problem was the gearbox reverse switch which is directly mounted under the water column into the gearbox.

Check before you buy it by using a metallic paperclip and shorting the connector pins to see if the rear lights come on (to exclude a broken wire or oxydated contact etc.)

The part is here: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... b0s12p1325

and i advise to ask a mechanic to replace it .. it takes him 3-4 minutes :) since the price of a 24mm key would go higher than the part itself

cheers

Wow... very late answer  .
have it sorted.. it was the previous owner who pinched a wire when putting back in the fuse.
took out the fuse and straightened the wire and perfect... bada bing bada boom

Hi guys,im new to the forum.
Im spanish living in Japan,so excuse my bad english.
Anyway, today i changed my tail light covers, and then putted the bulbs again in place.
I tested the lights and for my surprise the reverse light is not working(bulbs are the same, and before changing the covers,it worked perfectly).
The worst part of this,is that i thought,ok for now,and i took out the car for a drive, and another problem appeared, the tiptronic is like 'not working',first, the meter gear lights(PRND) are not working, second, the mission is like to be in first mission all time and i cant change it,however i can turn it to reversal, but the change is pretty notorius, you can feel like the car bouncing.
Help please. :(
I'm spanish, sorry if my english is so poor,i learned it at school when i was a kid and i forgot almost all of it lol

check the fuse box
is right under the steering wheel to the right

if all in order; see the engine fuse box... right near the battery..

carefull not to misplace or reverse the fuses
take one at a time and see its status.. if ok.. put back

Thanks,i checked the automatic transmission fuse, and it was ok.
I will try the engine one,but which one are you refering to?
Anyways, why can this happens when i just changed the tail lamp covers?i didnt even touch the bulbs. :(
Bytheway, this looks a really nice place for FTO owners,in japanese forums, people doesnt help you at all lol

EDIT:i have my F working now,as you guys said it was a blowed fuse(back lamp fuse or something like that),i changed for a new 10A one and voila!
Hope this helps people having the same problem.
Thank you so much.
