cat-bypass

Postby finers » Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:57 am

Was just wondering off chance if anyone had the dimensions of the cat-bypass? thinking about getting my friend a welder to give me hand to throw one together, seems a bit steep paying a 100 big ones for a piece of tubing and cutting my own caskets out of casket paper.

cheers.

gaskets on mine are metal. there's a slight bend in the decat too, best to get an old FTO cat that's broken and use the 2 ends

Depends on how much time you have and how handy you and your mate are!

Thanks colm, ye it would be no poblem in making it, fairly handy with messing around with stuff like that, the problem would be getting the dimensions and bend angle, with actually not having one to compare, i think ill look for a second hand one then go about to make a replica,, there £33 on ebay and nearly the same again to post it, if any1 knows a good scrap yard or has one handy they want to sell?

it's straight through, but it's not exactly straight, there's a slight bend in the one I had on mine.

I fail to see how anyone would make one for better quality for the money.
Some of the deCats on ebay are sh1te! - either very narrow diameter or really poor quality stainless steel and/or sh1te flanges.

Any FTO bypass pipes I've seen have been straight with offset flanges, reckon yours was an offcut colm ;)

True Myfeckin but lets be honest it's more fun trying to make one :D , with the exchange rate i think it would be worth my while buying it:D,, next on the list new downpipes, cnt wait!, not sure weither to get the downpipes or exhaust system first, would i be right in saying the downpipes are the most restrictive part on the fto exhaust system?

Another quick question,, does Fto ireland have a promo code for camskill? and if not might be worth an ask :D

Yip - the downpipes and Cat are probably the most restrictive parts of an FTO exhaust system though while it may seem to make sense to change these first the likelyhood is that the centre section and rear box will need to be changed first as they tend to rot first on the FTO. Add to this the fact that if you just changed to a DeCat and Downpipe and left the remainder of the OE FTO system - the baffles in the backbox would be blowing in no time at all. Hence we tend to change the centre section and backbox first - then the Decat/high flow cat and downpipe (if you're feeling flush).
