New/repair clutch

Lads how much is it for a new clutch and to fit it? Estimate price. Mine is ok but I've a feeling it won't be very long before that job needs to be done so want to start planning for it now! Is there something I could do now to prolong the life of it and stop it from going in the first place? Is it a big job or would I be able to do it? I'm not a complete mechanical dumb dumb but I'm no expert either. What should I be aware of?

Haven't done it myself and it's not a job I'd start on for fear of me getting it wrong..

I'd take my car to Paul Nolan - find his details on the Services page..He's the FTO super man in the Dublin area..

I had a "Fast Road" clutch fitted to mine but another crowd and they ripped me off to the tune of 900squids..when I told Paul his jaw dropped and he said he could have done that ALOT cheaper..

Jesus even "a lot cheaper" by a mechanics terms means around E600-E700. Didn't think it would be that much. How many years/miles can you expect to get from a standard clutch?

Clutch itself can be gotten for only €195 if you can do the labour yourself. Not the most pleasant job though. Have to do it myself next week.

My original one lasted 140000km - BUT having said that I'm fairly sure my original engine hadn't been minded..Cause my replacement unit is a HUUGE improvement.

You will know when your clutch has gone or is slipping - car will rev high before moving..when it goes completely the car will simply stop moving..mine expired while I was in the fast lane on the M50 around 6pm at the red cow round about.. I've rarely been as high on adrenaline as I was trying to get across to the hard should with no clutch and the slow lane being bumper to bumper..

Give Paul a ring and ask him what's his guideline figure, he's very fair when it comes to pricing jobs generally - the crowd that took my 900e are absolute twunts and I haven't been there since and I will never go there again; Well I might go to to voice my opinion of them and their business practices.

I got a clutch fitted for €400 fitted, even at that I think it was a little expensive but the day the clutch went I needed it replaced urgently and this crowd did it the following day
