Just an FYI -the special keyed socket is only required for mivec engines. A regular spark plug socket with fit into the non mivec engine.

Get a 3/8" drive 16mm plug socket and grind down the outside. Will cost you 4-5 euro

What is the shaft on the left hand side - obviously something to help turn the one on the right ?

I have the one on the right but planned to turn it using some other form of socket. Will this work ?

The one on the right is the Mitsi supplied one, comes with the car. It is very weak and if your plugs are very tight it is jus not strong enough and will round.

One on the left will do if the first 3 inches from the bottom are ground down to a slightly smaller diameter to get by the little dimples in the GPX plug holes

Not sure jayo if you think you have to take down the outside diameter or your referring to take a flat piece off the side, once you get past the lip your sorted.

heres one i did cost 4 euros in halfords then just grinded it down, thanks to steelroe for the advice a while ago.

Hope this picture clears things up :D

Would it be OK to prime the plugs with WD40 prior to trying to get them out using the Mitsi tool ? Might work then - what do you think ?

Mine were a bit worse... this is one of the better 3 beside a new plug (poor pic but you get the idea):

Personally I'd just go by the mileage, unless the car is running poorly and you suspect it is the spark plugs gone bad. After I saw them I was surprised my car was running fine, no problems at all, but it was definately a bit smoother and easier revving when I put the new ones in.

The plugs aren't expensive, and its a bit of hassle to get to the back ones, so I'd be inclined to just change them rather than go to the trouble of checking.
