How about an area where members can upload photos of their car? Attaching it to profiles as a link would be ideal, so everyone can see what everyone else has. It wouldn't be a thread, but more like an extension, or enhancement of everyones profiles.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

You would be surprised with the amount of people who cannot/will not use sites like photobucket. It would be far more effective if user profiles were updated, very much in the same way FB encourages users to add more info.....only we won't use it for advertising purposes. I don't know if the site allows for this type of upgrade...add on.

Would it actually be possible to get a thread up for this. Possibly no comments by other members on other members cars so its just a quick snap shot thread and a limited of pics to be uploaded by each member maybe 3/4 max!

A thread is the next best thing, but would love to see it form part of a profile, because a thread will lose momentum.

Think i know what you mean like when i click on your name on the right of the post it brings me to your profile and i can see your personal information, below that i can contact you and to the right it gives me a choice to view your posts and threads.
You talking about something below that where you could have your garage with a few pictures of your car/s?

Yep. That's exactly what I mean. All part of a profile, rather than a thread. So, if I wanted to check out any members car, I could just see any post they had published and click on their name to go to their profile and see what they have pictured. I appreciate some people won't bother to put up photos on their profile, so those who do, could have a little symbol beside their name, telling us all "I have photos of my car here". Even that wouldn't be totally necessary. Those with an avatar would most likely be the people putting up car pics. Can this be done?

I know cvr4.com has that in place and it works very well, dont know how much work needs to be put into it on the admin side of it but would be a very good idea.

A member's cars thread would get clogged and hard to navigate very quickly.
Having a garage section has been discussed before, at the time I think there was no usable phpBB mod available.
CJ might have an update on it?

Cool. We'll wait and see I guess. Would suggest limiting number of photos to keep from clogging.

At this point in time, its quite challenging to implement a members gallery or 'garage' for phpbb3. Official modifications were started some time ago but were abandoned without being released for ver. 3.0 of the forum software. Only option is to move to vBulletin which is not on the agenda right now. I'd like to see this feature in place but unfortunately, its not doable under the current set of constraints.

In the interim, I'd like to float the idea of a dedicated forum for FTO pics - keep 'em all in the one place if you will.

Sounds like a good idea. Just so I have it right it'd be a dedicated forum for members cars and each member would start their own unique thread with just a few pictures of their cars. Other members wouldn't put up pictures of their own car in my thread or vice versa?

Sounds good. It would be simple enough for a member to have a link from their profile to their thread wouldn't it?
