Speeding & tickets

This morning is was cruising along trying to get to work on time.. I wasn't in a mad rush as I had left the house on time..

Having just overtaken an over ambitious learner driver I had caught up with the back of the pack and was settling in at 110kmph..all is calm and well..then with my tired eye I spy something flashing in my rear view..

It's a Garda - and He's going like stink - all lights flashing..

OOkidoki - I'll let him past, I pull over.... He Pulls over..

Donkeys-Rear-end - it's me he's after..

I pull over.

I figure he must have caught me just after overtaking the Learner bloke cause he shows me his speed-gun and it reads 153kmph.. urgh.
He asks me where I live and I rattle it off - he doesn't take it down though.. he takes my license - goes and sit in his car, scribbles a few bits on his note pad (4mins duration).. And he returns to check tax & insurance on the vehicle.

All is well.

I'm told to slow down & take it handy..and then he utters the words:

"You may hear about this in the post."

what does that mean.. I MAY..argh! Why could he not just put me out of my misery. Now I have to spend the next two months wondering..

If nothing else I suppose this will finally prove or dis-prove the theory on non ROI/UK licenses and penalty points.

Oh I was late for work as well..

Does anybody know if it['s customary to get the fine there and then if you're caught with the hand-gun thing?

Cheerio,

mmmmm

my gf was stopped 4 months ago because she was talking on the phone + no seatbelt
the garda told her the same thing after taking her details
- since then nothing in the post

i was stopped a month ago or maybe more because i didnt signal the line change (!!?!?! - i did, but they said i didnt) .. take the licence in their patrol car and after they take my details just let me go.

both of the licences are ''european'' :)

You're lucky man, another 7kph and you would have been in trouble.

I got flashed by the gatso at the Tallaght on-ramp on the M50 on the weekend, I foolishly forgot about it. In my defense guard, I was driving an RX-7 ;)

Oh I'm not..Can't take anything for granted..but people here in work all say that if they zap you with the gun and pull you they normally give you the fine there and then.. I wish he'd just done that..

Cheerio,

They`ll probably start to count penalty points on your license mate... I had the same issue... was driving 150 on 50... fu...ng restrictions now on navan rd. I was waiting about 5 days for a letter from them (no financial penalty !!! - just points) and I have EU licence...

Apparantly theres no points for buggery! - you'd think it'd be at least 4?

I reckon he was just trying to scare you TBH - after 6 months if you haven't received anything then they can't charge you - though from experience they usually leave it till about 5 months before they take they're thumb out of their a55 and send you the letter.

Well - We'll see what happens anyways..I'll let you all know..

Today was the 1st day I drove to work almost without breaking the speed-limit..ever.. It was dull experience to say the least...

My guess is... the waiting is your punishment....worse than a fine!

i got stopped 2day again!
motive: checkpoint (driving too fast in a residential area/!?!)

i just got out of a small street .. on my second gear maibe 40-50 km/h .. (revs a little to high maybe).. and she treeted me like a criminal boyracer
-who m i , where i go , where i live , what do i do where i go , where i work ,whos car is this ,and all sort of stupid Q .. she even put me to take out the nct, tax&inss from the windscreen!
then she got me out of the car to show her the boot and my pokets    thats outrageous & stupid as i told her
i got nothing in the pokets she said i should go to the garda station if i dont wanna show her! she replied my attitude is crap as i was smiling (couldnt belive thats happening )!!

she took my details and my mates details and told me to produce the inssurance act to my garda station.
i told her i was under 50km/h but she wouldnt listen!

thats the 5th time in 4 months i own the fto , the garda stopes me

i owned 4 different cars before and in one and a half years the Garda stopped me only once (and that was a checkpoint)

what s up with them !?

am i waiting for another fine ??

If she didn't get you with a speed gun or similar there's no way she can prove what speed you did.

"You may hear about this in the post."

MEANS

A guard has it at his discretion to issue a ticket or not issue a ticket up to a year after the offense takes place.

Buggery..

80e fine with 2 point attachment arrived in the post today..
I'm tempted to return the letter with an alphabetical list of all curses and swear words I know..

Still I should count my lucky stars I suppose he could have clocked me at something more than 153kph..

Let this serve as a reminder - don't speed unless you're on a private track..

Unlucky Maud. Lets be honest here though lads, 153kmph is CRAZY speed. I know some are saying "lucky it wasn't 160kmph" etc. Whats the difference? 153 is still WAY over the maximum speed limit allowable on any road in this country. I would think 80euro and 2 points is a total let off. I'd be very happy with that considering.
Maud, what road was it on, and was the cop car sitting pulled in on the hard shoulder or was he moving when he got you? I'd say I have hit 150kmph a couple of times on the motorway but thats it. Quite fast indeed. :p
I'd say the usual law of physics apply "An fto doing 100mph looks 3 times faster to a garda than a nissan primera doing 100mph"

I was on the N2 the dual carriageway section..
The Garda was at the top of a sliproad - and he got me with his gun thing.

160kph makes a difference cause that the magic number where they take your license.

80e and 2 points is cheap - I agree, but it's frustrating none-the-less to effectively have thrown half a tyre out the window..especially seen in the light that I need new tires..

Thankfully I've just been booked for a night of DJing so that'll pay the fine..

Is 160K the magic number - I thought that was just in the UK. I didn't think that there was a mandatory ban just for speed.

Not illegal to own but illegal to use. The cops will take them off you if they spot one in the car.

In my wilder days i got clocked @ 51.25 in a 30 zone.

Lucky for me i knew the Guard and he decided he'd just give me a fright.

That speed would have allowed him to endorse my license.

Have topped that since but was on the way to hospital and it was a guarda on his way home in his own car that perused me. He understood when we got to the hospital again luckily.

Bar that im saintly
