alternater wrecking my head

alternater wrecking my head

alternater spannered out and need to get it out to get it reconditioned. the problem lies here, how the hell do you get it out :?: prob something simple i cant see, any ideas :?:

i think you have to remove either the inlet manifold or drop out the drive shaft under the alternator.

this was mentioned to me some time back

It says 'If you want to change it yourself you'll need a couple of hours. The manifold has to come off followed by the throttle body and then the inlet manifold. Remove the manifold bracket and then the alternator bracket and this should allow you to get the alternator out (you need to have patience here as it can be awkward).'

after thinking bout it for ages i chanced jacking the engine up with taking care not to pull any pipes. had to unscrew a bolt from under one engine mountin and perfect, came out with not much more problems. hopefully get it back in for tomorrow nite.cheers for the help lads

You've no idea how lucky you were! I've had a few alt. problems as of late. Basically between me and 3 mechs. looking at it we found that the only way to get it out was to pop the drive shaft out and undo a mounting bolt, took a bit of work. Mine is a GR, just wondering what what yours is not that it would probably make any difference? Make sure the guys recon. the altenator properly as its a pain in the ar$e taking it off again.You don't need to do anything with inlet manifolds etc.
