intermitant rev counter

Postby skipper » Sun Mar 28, 2010 10:05 pm

Hi All,
I'm new to FTO ownership and this forum, I've just bought it from a friend. One problem it has is the rev counter didn't work then whilst driving it started to work for 30 seconds and then dropped back to zero anddid the same thing a few days later. I've searched the posts on this forum and the symtoms seem to be the same as others have experenced, but what was the solution???? there were several suggestions but no final solutions. Any help would be appriciated.
Many thanks

I think its the speed sensor which is mounted either in the transmission case or rear differential assembly, or camshaft which is faulty or loose if im not mistaken.
Don't know where is it on an fto though. :|

Same thing happened to my girlfriends golf and it was the speed sensor and was around the camshaft area.

Problem now solvedby replacing the ignition failure sensor, I was sceptical that this was going to cure the problem on account that the engine seemed to run fine so the ECU must have been geitting an engine speed signal. but any way it now works.

Its mounted on the right hand side of the of the front cylinder head, you can see it if you look between the rocker box and air filter box pipe ( which you'll need to remove to get at the ifnition failure sensor ) it has IFS and some numbers printed on it.
Good luck
