Got a strange noise

Postby Malci » Tue Aug 22, 2006 12:29 am

I have a sort of whining noise on my FTO when it is stationary but in gear (tiptronic model). When I release the brake and start to move the noise stops. It appears to be coming from the rear of the car but cant be 100%. I never hear it when driving normally and I dont hear it when stationary out of gear with the brake depressed.

It is baffling me

Does anyone have a clue??

Malci, you will get a slight whining noise from the tip box when in Drive if the ignition is engaged and the engine is not running but I assume the car is running in your case. Any other noises or strange behavior when driving? The fact tghat the noise is coming from the rear is a strange one - does it appear to be related to exhauts noise?

No other noises. The noise I have is when the engine is running and the car is stationary, but in gear with the brake depressed. When I release the brake and the car starts to move the noise dissapears (it stops when reaching 2 or 3 miles per hour). The noise can be felt as a vibration through my foot whilst the brake is depressed. I would assume it was the brakes apart from the fact that the noise doesnt appear when the car is stationary and in neutral. Cant be sure the noise is from the rear

I would describe the noise whilst stationary and in gear as a humming noise that gets louder and then quieter by itself. As soon as brake is released the noise gets quieter until it dissapears at 2 - 3 mph.
