Droning noise

Hi All,

Since I've started travelling on the new M! motorway, I've noticed a sort of droning noise from the front of the car. I only notice it on the M1 as the surface is so smooth and there's less road noise. I think it may be one of the wheel bearings. Has anyone had to change their own bearings and if so, is it a tough job ?

Don't rule out road noise from badly matched or worn tyres (esp. Jap ones). Mitsi will sell you the wheel bearings but it'll cost, you could get a set off a scrapped car. The P/N is MB303865

Nah, the tyres are fine. Camskill do the bearing kits for £35 each, but I don't want to order them until I am fairly sure that the bearings are the cause of the noise. I don't want to start the job, make an ar$e of it, and then have to get the car transported to a local garage.

I would bet that one of the wheel bearings is gone and you can get these in any factors. Same as 2.0L Galant. Bearing usually has to be pressed out depending on how tight the fit is.

I'll have a go at changing both of them. Probably won't hurt to replace both of them at the same time. Are there any special tools required ?

I think I have the same issue guys but it doesn't seem to affect anything terms of performance and I have been running this way for months.

Does anyone know how to diagnose this when the car is stopped ? I presume it involves jacking up each wheel, spinning and listening ?

Don't know how to diagnose it while stationary. Just began to notice it when driving on smooth roads, of which there aren't many around.
