mechanic In Cork

Postby Masa » Wed Dec 03, 2008 10:16 am

Hi Guys,

remember I changed my water pump and all the belts for 200 € labor at Dennis henderson's motor in Cork,

Now to change my clutch and both front brake discs and pads he's quoting me 280.
That sounds a really good price.

So I'll keep you updated if it went well.

But I do think that having a GS is helping me, as each time they ask if it's a V6 one, and as it isn't it seems cheaper to do.

Wil ldo it on friday so if everything's fine I'll show up at saturday's meeting :)

I made a search on the board and here is what I have:

steelroe wrote:Forgot the radiator cap. Is the rubber seal perished on this. It prob work fine until the water gets very hot. Is there any brown discolourisation around the rad cap area

Yep there is, and some brown residue. what this due to ?

Kace wrote:I think one of the tests for head gasket is to start the car with the radiator cap off. If there is a problem water will hose out the top at pressure.

There is nothing wrong if there is an initial flow of water out the top like a mini volcano for a few mins, this will ease off and then should stop overflowing altogether after a minute or two.

yep, it's doign the mini volcano thing but not for minutes, only seconds.

so what do you recon ? head gasket is going to a better world?

Classic sign of head gasket gone, mayonaisse-y stuff on the radiator cap.

The water should gush for more than just a few seconds... does sound like the head gasket is gone alright.

Emulsion of oil and water. The head gasket is not keeping them separated anymore.
