Clutch Packed up today!

Postby Mitsubishi-Mental » Sun Feb 27, 2011 9:56 pm

Well lads

I left the convoy near Gort yesterday and headed back to the miss's house, got up this morning, gave the car a wash and wax, started her up to drive her out the shed and the clutch packed in, or at least i think its the clutch :(

She wont go into gear, unless forced and when she does it makes a sceeching/scrapping sound. so i pushed her in the shed until i can get a tow back to Wicklow.

I dont know what caused it, but i think it was caused by the hard driving she got yesterday 8)

Anyway lads I wanted to get an Exceedy Clutch or something that can take a little more abuse than a standard one?

Does anyone one know if Exceedy do a paddle clutch for the GS FTO, I've only seen aftermarket clutches for the DE3A FTO's

Does anyone know where i can get one reasonably priced,

Cheers in advance lads :smt023

Have you checked fluid levels?

Its a closed system but you may have a small leak.

You could try use a bit of motor oil (gear oil is pretty expensive) and pump the clutch pedal a few times just in case.
Get out of here Nebulon! No one likes your style...

After thinking back i hit a nasty pothole on the way home, could of it slipped a disc perhaps?

I'll give that a go, never had this sort of issue before, cheers for the reply dude :smt023

If it is the cable bracket, it's an easy fix mate, could do it yourself in a couple hours! Save yourself a few quid.

I was talking to the mechanic there and he said it sounds like gear linkage after hitting the pothole, maybe one of them is bent or something, but i dont know until i get it on the ramps, hopefully its nothing too serious anyway, i'll keep ye posted

There no gear linkage on an fto just selector cables. So I doubt the pothole had very much to do with it. I'd tend to agree that it's prob the cable bracket on top of the box. I've been told they're a common fault on the fto

That clears up the linkage theory so :smt023 ha ha

Is this cable bracket hard to find a replacement for?

Thanks mate, just managed to get it back from Galway there on Saturday, still haven't determined the problem it looks like its the clutch though.

if the clutch was gone it would go into gear when the car was running without even pressing the clutch pedal as the clutch plate should be too worn for there to be friction between it and the pressure plate.. if it doesnt go into gear then it is probably the bracket as mentioned above :D
I know this from experience of burning out clutches when i was a kid with field cars :L
