There's a can of worms  (use the search function)

It can, and has been done but it's not straight forward and there's no off-the-shelf kit to use.
If you want big power gains you're better off with an engine transplant, VR4 is a good choice.

The VR4 transplant would probably be expensive but nowhere near as expensive as a turbo conversion when it's finished. There's also an EVO engine transfer and I'd say that engine would be easier to come across. If you do the engine then you need to do the shafts, the brakes and a few other bits. FTOOC has a few threads on engine swaps from various cars.
Currently in my collection:
'98 Toyota Starlet...
'79 Mini Clubman 1380cc ~100BHP (I hope)
'79 BMW 728

I have a nice little Legnum for sale if you are interested in a 6A13 TT transplant. This is a lot easier than the EVO route IMO. You can use the fto box fitted to the 6A13 engine.

I'm trying to read up on posts about a VR-4 transplant at present, theres a great post on the Oz forum, won't be doing it for a while yet but want to be prepared for when I will do it. Does anyone know a whole lot about it from the cost issue over here? And exactly how long it would take and whats involved? I know ftorex has been doing one, and steelroe I reckon knows how to do it, (with his eyes closed!), but it would be nice to get a sort of a budget figure on it so I could start maybe getting smaller things done to ease the work (and cashflow) load when I do decide to do it. Things like Walbro fuel pump, bigger brakes, that sort of stuff.

This would be a real nightmare, just looked under the Legnum today to see how much stuff would need changing. Not to mention the amount of cutting needed on the body. Was there not a post a while back with pic of a guy doing a AWD conversion.

If you can get a whole car (steelroe's) then you have the engine, box, brakes and frames. Easy to start with something like that I reckon.

Muad also considered this route IIRC. The Oz forums are probably the best place for advice in terms of 6A13TT swaps, you could also try and get Richard Battys ear for some practical advice...
