I'd say there'd be a nice torque gain as well. We had a Corolla Compressor at work (Limited edition, 225hp supercharged version of the 189bhp VVTL-i engine, also in the Exige) and it really sorted the lack of low down pull the T Sport had. I'd say the V6 would take to supercharging very well and you wouldn't need huge bhp figures to make a much quicker car

I reckon that supercharging the Mivec unit would work out better than a turbo if only a reliable kit was available.

228bhp doesn't seem like much of a jump though - hardly worthwhile in fact - I would have thought with bigger injectors, fuel pump and FPR along with a piggyback ECU and SC (running 7-10psi) would see somewhere in the region of a 250bhp flywheel figure.

Think it said he was running 6psi he said he didn't want to chance any higher as it hadn't been tested before and he didn't want to be the first to try and fail. And I think it said not 100% 160 torque.

that'll be for me :)

you would be suprised how cheap you can do this if you bargain hunt around ebay.

here's what ive got so far -

emanage blue with ignition, injector harnesses + 3 bar map sensor and support tool and data cable (allready fitted myself and easy to do)
Image
Image

uprated sard fuel pressure regulator (allready fitted - easy job)
Image

uprated walbro fuel pump + injectors -
Image

Eaton M45 supercharger off a mercedes clk -
Image
Image
Image

supercharger bypass valve -
Image

A nearly finished custom intake manifold -
Image

custom bracket with extra idler to get more belt wrap around custom double alternator tensioner pulley -
Image

and finally some nice big brakes to keep things safe-

Looks like stunning value and a fantastic project for the FTO - however now lets see what it costs to put it all together with the remaining parts and get it mapped reliably.

What intercooler (if any) are you using? Have you thought about a larger oil pan? It'll be interesting to see how you route the belts and pulleys to work the SC.

What ratio is the new pulley in relation to the SC pulley. what speed will the SC be running at.

supercharger will be at 17288 rpm when the engine is at 8000rpm.

Ive had the diameter of the alternator tensioner pulley reduced to 54mm. -

70mm outer alt pulley =

127mm (crank) / 54mm (alt pulley) = 2.352
= alternator shaft turning at 2352 rpm at 1000 rpm engine speed.

70mm (alt outer pulley) / 76.2mm (supercharger pulley) = 0.919

0.919 X 2352 = 2161 supercharger rpm at 1000 engine rpm

2161 X 8 = 17288 supercharger rpm at FTO 8000 rpm

Not going to be running an intercooler, if my research is correct it shouldnt be needed. There will only be 1 additional belt to route and should be fairly straight forward, I may have move 1 of the aircon pipes slightly.

Remaining costs -

£350 for a full professional mapping which will take a few days or im considering getting a wideband and setting up the bulk of the fuel map myself and will then only need tweaking and the ignition timing set up properly which would take a few hours and be a lot cheaper.

Just trying to get the pulley/belt set up clear in my head.

The custom pulley above is to be fitted in place of the alt tensioner correct. The outer pulley will be used to spin the SC with the SC belt wrapped around the extra tensioner. you had the tensioner pulley reduced to 54mm so that the alt and tensioner would be runnin the same rpm. Am I correct in my reading of this

If this set up works, then it does seem a lot easier than the turbo route.

No problem Mark, Im glad i could help
Best of luck with it all,
Hopefully it will all come together for you,

Just to add that the double pulley with bearing was 110 euros and i had no dimensions or drawings to work with,
So had to design the inside and out myself with a standard idler and 2 belts which werent the easiest to measure
Also had to grind up a tool to turn out the V grooves and press an insert into the bearing and then press the bearing into the center of the pulley with an extra support of a 45mm circlip

Heres a few better quality pics

I'm following this build with interest, if its as well planned as is appears then the results should be very positive. Theres scope to market an upgrade like this on a small scale if the right people get behind it. Mark, realistically, do you expect this mod to have any significant impact on reliability? Did you have any raw data to go on before you started planning?

Bring on the usability test and dyno graphs :smt045
