Cheap Super Unleaded

Postby GarLaf » Fri Jan 09, 2004 2:55 am

If anyone is interested tesco are selling 97 octane for 87.4 cent. Ive been using it for two months now and it makes a big difference. You will get more range for a start and more throttle response. If you spend 40 euro in tesco you will get 5 cent off every litre. The garage is in the Finglas Clearwater complex on the N2

Christ!! I've been paying 113 cent a litre (26c more!) for 98 RON fuel out of Esso for the past two years, I didn't know Tesco did SUL, I think I'll be making a regular trip over to Finglas from now on.

Ciaran,

Christ on a full fill of 60 litres you would save €15.6, not sure how far from you it is but I think it would definitely be worth the trip.

We have the same deal going here in Killarney Tesco for the past few months.

My understanding is that Esso supply petrol to Tesco (in Ireland anyway).
In saying that, their SUL is 98 as opposed to 97 RON. Anyone know if Tesco plan to open any more filling stations in Dublin? I heard that theres one more planned (probably southside) but I don't know the exact location.

Every bit helps I suppose. Theres certainly a difference between 95 and 98
but I imagine the difference of 1 RON won't make a massive impact

Yeah, got it there yesterday, it's 79.something, but the Maxol in Finglas have also dropped their price to match Tesco's (don't they always do that?). Obviously word is getting around - there were queues outside the Maxol yesterday. There are also two other petrol stations in Finglas - but I'm not sure if'they've dropped.

I meant to bring this up recently, I went around all of the pumps in Tesco in Finglas and there wasn't a SUL pump to be found :(
Did they ever have a SUL pump does anyone know?

Esso and Texaco sell 97 RON, 98 ain't available AFAIK.

I also went over to Finglas a week or 2 ago to check out this cheap petrol - I found a shell garage (just after main crossing the main Ballymun Junction) where I had a look for super but they didn't have any. So I drove into Finglas village but couldn't find the clearwater complex. Anyway I ended up heading back to the shell garage and filling up with unleaded at 81c a litre.

I headed out that direction again today at lunchtime but only made it to the shell garage again cause of the traffic where I filled up with unleaded for 83c a litre. I noticed that they don't do shell pura there anymore - I wonder if these cheap stations have stopper selling the more expensive petrol and are only doing unleaded and disel? Btw, the queue was huge for this place.

I'd really like to run the car on 97 octane fuel but I just could not justify the price :( Maybe I should get some octane booster or make sure the cambelt is adjusted to ensure adequate performance........

Tesco have removed the Super from Finglas Clearwater. This is because they have so many people queueing to buy normal unleaded that the tanks have now all been converted to 95RON. The prices are excellent though and with a 24hour Tesco I have even queued for 20 mins after 11pm at night to fill up. Well worth it though.
