Resprays?

Postby kevinod » Thu Oct 28, 2004 3:00 pm

Guys,

need to get my front left wing resprayed, previous owner got a really crap job done on it (colour doesn't match, overspray). While they're at it there's a slight scrape just behind the left door, the back bumper could do with a touch up and boot could do with a lick of paint too...

Anyone get something like this done, and have an idea of what kinda bobs I'd be looking at? Went into Red Abbey Motors today, €1000 they're talking about, which doesn't sound too bad, but anyone know better? I've got work done by them on my Xsara before (wind slammed door open and stretched it all out of place, and a scrape on the left side - my fault  ) and they did a good job on it.

Got a quote on my Xsara, slight dent on left wing, not my fault, but have to get it sorted before my buyer will take it. €250 for that.

I know there aren't many Corkonians on fto-ireland, but anyone know any good bodyshops down this part of d'island?

Kev,
I recently got a quote to respray one front wing (some nasty stone chips) Remove the stone chips from the bonnet and other wing, and also put a patch on the rear bumper, an area of approximately 10" x10" (previous owner scratched the paint and resprayed with some silver paint, fairly crude job). Note there is no body work involved just painting. Quote was €200 all in, which I was quite happy with. Have not got the work done yet.
I have used this panel beater before and their work is second to none, real professionals and very competitive pricing, and highly regraded locally, in Laois that is! Don't know of anyone in Cork.

BTW did you manage to survive the weather ok yesterday? I was in Cork myself and the weather was awful, looked like a scene from one of those natural disaster films. Couldn't get out of the place quick enough.

Sounds good for €200! once they do a good job you're in business I'd say!

You must do savage mileage altogether, Cork, Limerick, Laois, Dublin!

Weather, survived ok, actually even went out and played soccer in it, usual wednesday evening soccer, only 8 turned up so we had an hours 4v4 on a 7-aside astroturf pitch. Some roads were still impassable this morning, but today is actually not bad at all, no rain, sun is out a bit and all! I'm living a few miles out, up a few hills, so was safe enough from flooding but city centre was destroyed altogether!

Thought all this drainage they've spent the last 2 years doing would help prevent that from happening again. There's been pictures of a guy canoeing down one of the main city centre streets (Oliver Plunkett Street) before but don't remember it being quite this bad.

Got it done after, got better quote than the €1000, and collecting it this evening. He even took out all the dents (were 10 small dents supposedly, I only saw 1!) while he was at it, no extra charge. I think they were getting fond of her and when they spotted the dents decided it would be a shame to paint over them and sorted the out!

Another few guys who couldn't start the car without being shown how to do it twice, had to go back the next day and show them again. I'm a really big fan of this immobiliser at this stage!

Really looking forward to collecting it and seeing how it turned out, should make a huge difference to the car (well left side anyway). :D

Hopefully I'll finally be able to take a few pics of her without worrying about what angle I take them from... a new addition to the gallery all going well! 8)

 I'll superimpose some nice wheels on her or something maybe!

My next big thing to do (apart from arb bushes + droplinks, which will hopefully arrive today for the weekend) is sort out the wheels, might just get an 'inexpensive' (note I didn't use the word 'cheap' ) set of wheels to do for the moment, spent enough money on her for the moment, Xsara must be sorted out too.

You only have the 1 car??

Joking! will be down to one car again myself once the Xsara is sorted and sold to my brother hopefully. Small dent on front left wing and rattle in the sunroof, other than that she's perfick.

The resprayers held onto it until Monday to finish it off properly, would have been rushing to get it done by Friday evening. Collected it last night, and its a beautiful job alright, they really polished it up too all over and its just mint.

New boot lid is on it and painted (had a good few scratches beforehand), so no more holes where the old spoiler was (no more duct tape on covering them), no scrapes, chip on the back bumper. They even blackened the side wall of the tyres, gave the alloys a clean and polished the dash, think they got fairly fond of her.

Paint job itself is spot on, colours are matching perfectly, and all in all its like new! Too dark last night to get anyway half decent pics, so I'll try to get some in the next couple of days and post them up somewhere.

Highly recommended, an excellent job - Kevin Neville, in Pouladuff in Cork, (021) 4322660 if anyones looking for someone down this direction.

Such a pity to have to drive it straight into the garage at home to get the anti-roll bar bushes and droplinks done but will hopefully have that finished tonight and I can cruise in my shiney 'new' car tomorrow! 8)
