Failed NCT on Emissions- very high

Mine just failed on emissions and a steering rack gaiter today. Figures are as follows:
Low Idle:
co 0.81, allowed 0.5

High Idle:
Lamda:0.892 allowed:0.97-1.03
CO: 3.83 allowed 0.3
HC 204 ppm allowed:200

Would my issue be the same as fatboyfat7? My figures aren't as high so would the use of some redex help me?

You still have to change the ;ambda sensor too, the universal i got did nothing. Let me know how you get on and likewise...

I would actually say that your Lambda isn't at fault here as your values are quite close - my values were through the roof and nowhere near the required tolerances.

Can you confirm that you drove the living bejesus ( ) out of the car before dropping into the centre ?
If not, then a dose of Redex and a spirited drive before retest should get you through.
If so, then your next port of call really has to be the Cat - i.e. borrow someone elses (that you know has passed) for the test.

I did give it a good drive before hand but I didn't use any redex. I think I'l give that a try next and see what happens. I know the car had a stainless steel exhaust fitted 29/01/2008 so I would think the CAT is ok, I'm guessing a CAT should last 1+1/2 years no bother. Or does it? TBH I'm not clued up on that sort of stuff,
Its the mss003-x1 (its on the receipt) that was fitted, its the 3rd pic in the fto section.

I wouldn't be overly optimistic that Redex will resolve your issue - but you can try it. I would be more inclined to look at the CAT.

Even though you have a new Stainless Steel exhaust - I'm sure that this would have been a CAT-back install and that your CAT is probably about 15 years old. I don't think that many people would have a brand new CAT and most will be running the original OEM CAT.

Well I'm not too sure whether the CAT was replaced at the time. The picture on the ricerocket website would suggest it was included but then again maybe not. I pm'd the previous owner to ask him so hopefully he can shed some light on it as it was him who had it done.

Chris thats seriously high for a cat that actually working, those figures are more like a failed one. The O2 sensor is the lambda sensor isnt it? Is there a seperate temperature sensor somewhere that might need replacing? Thought I saw somewhere there was a temp sensor related to the O2 sensor.

I have no idea Martin TBH. Im wallowing in self pity. The CAT is Finers and Im sure he passed recently enough using it. I think my next thing is to buy a new cat. sounds about the right way to do it....

A mechanic told me today that having an induction kit would also increase my emissions. He said on a standard air box theres some wire that regulates the air intake. Putting more air in will increase my emissions he claims. Is this accurate?

I don't think that there is any truth in this - there is definitely no wiring of any sort into the standard airbox.

Chances are a mechanic wouldn't know the difference, they'd take a look at the induction kit and assume the MAF had been removed.

Either way I just had my 2nd re test this morning, this time I changed the engine temp sensor. No such luck. Emissions still at 3.53%. The readings from the lambda are still below acceptable levels so I think I might just buy a mitsi lambda and try it with toms cat. If that doesnt work I dont know what i'll do.
