A good spec FTO

Postby Sebastian » Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:25 pm

Had the idea a few weeks back when I was browsing the forums .

This is one for the LEEPU in you
You can actually build a GREAT spec FTO just visiting FTO IRELAND

right

Step 1 get a cheap fto : MAnual GPX http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1273505
Step 2 : facelift bumper upgrade here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11362
step 3: milltek catback here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11416
step 4 : de-cat pipe here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11470&p=87700&hilit=gpvr#p87700
step 5 : GPvR spoiler here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11445&p=87559#p87559
step 6 : 17' rota wheels here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11460&p=87727#p87727
step 7 : get strutbraces here : viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11331

add a few small and cheap mods like hids , mx5 side repeters ,dial rings ,plasma dials and for under 2500 eur you get a fairly well spec'd FTO

there is a down side though .. you have to respray the yoke and spend a few hundreds on servicing the engine and sort bits and bobs like the bushings and stuff .
if you want to go mad , a leatherete interior and a set of performance tyres will complete your cool ride

€2500 to get the car in a reasonable condition.
€3000 for the respray.
€500 (ish) for a full service.

€6000 would get you an excellent car and probably the tax & insurance too, although if you fancied a project...

that cheap fto has no NCT and it always makes you wonder why they don't put it through and get it and add a few more bob for themselves. Or is that just me being paranoid? .
In saying that there are really good deals out there now.

I didn't want to underline that particular fto ..... it was randomly picked . It is more about the idea

eee Berno you go over the top...
I`d say:
€2500 to get the car in a reasonable condition.
€1700-1800 for the respray.
€300-400 (ish) for a full service.

When I bought my car I had a full service done for peace of mind if nothing else.
I changed all the belts, water pump and so on.
Parts alone came to over £350 from camskill and labour was about as much again.

I've never priced a respray but from discussions on the forum I thought that was about right for a proper job, you have contacts though

Depends where you get the full service done, if you do it yourself you'll prob spend around the €400 mark. But I brought mine to Mitsi for the first one cause I wanted peace of mind and it cost €1600 all in.

holy cr4p 1600 for a service i only paid 500 for my v6 the guy i bought it off thought the matrix and the head gasket were gone and he thought it was overheating 2mins after start up matrix was sorted with a €12 bottle of rad weld and head gasket was fine turned out he power washed the engine or something when the oil filler cap wasn't on right as for the over heating it was just a sticky sensor so all in all think i got a bargain but i would probably cry if i got a 1600 service bill and dragonheart i think i swapped you a blackberry phone in the carpark of halfords in carlow i was admiring your car at the time little did i know id end up with one a couple of months later

Not me I'm afraid eamop, I'm in either Cork or Limerick, and never been to Halfords in Carlow.
The service price, like I said, was through Mitsubishi dealership, so you'd be paying at least twice as much as you would through them as you would through a normal garage or mechanic.

Thats Gfalls. Strange it was peeling as I think that was done by a professional painter.

I reckon this fix is just just delaying the inevitable dash out job, keep a close eye out for dropping coolant levels and damp carpets....

Matt Mulhall (on here) now has my FTO. Paints still fine, AFAIK. I had it done by my mate, he owns a body shop. Did some PC repair work for him in exchange, so it cost me nothing.
