Punto Power

Postby thomasfto » Wed Jun 23, 2004 1:41 pm

Funny thing happened to me when i had my GR tip, me and my mate where heading up the M50.
Do any of you know the start of the M50 going up hill from the round about?

He was able to beat me up to 60Mph ( full car length ahead and more) in his punto HGT 1.8P and that only kicks out 145 BHP

Not really surprised here to be honest - transmission losses with the tip combined with the higher weight would mean that the power to weight ratio at the wheels would be pretty similar - your top end should be much better however.

I had a similar situation with my mates scooby the other night - though his initial traction helped him to a couple of car lengths - I caught him on the hop at (unmentionable)...MPH - Never more than a car length between either of us for at least a mile - who was in front depended upon who was in the better power band - when the turbo was on full song he was pulling me back - when the mivec was at full chat I was leaving him behind.

Please note - above done on an empty section of straight dual carriageway - I mean runway.

LOL 8)

Thomas, those HGTs will do 0-60 in 8.6 seconds so you should have easily beaten him, even in a Tip. A good start makes all the difference in these circumstances...

I'd agree with CJ here - the tip's are not that slow - the only time such lesser powered cars should beat you is when you are out of the power band..... if you get in the powerband you'll easy beat a punto HGT

The side of the road you get also makes a difference, there's a lot less grip on the outside lane there.

A GPX tip will kick its @ss, i had my GPX tip on a track with a load of scooby imperza's 90% of them turbo's and also on track was a bmw 353, golf gti, RWD twincam(supercharged) and a lotus elise, and in all the sessions i took part in only the elise passed me yet i overtook vertually everything else, So trust me a GPX tip is more than powerful enough once you keep it in the mivec zone.
