Trying to buy my first FTO but.....

Postby FTO Dreamer » Mon Jun 28, 2004 1:40 pm

Hi

Not sure if this is the correct topic for this area, but

I am trying to buy an FTO, the only thing standing in my way is my 99 Ford Focus which has been up for sale for the past month or so.

I had a problem with it, where when I was idling in traffic the revs would go up and down by itself. Car still drove fine though, other than that. I brought it to a Ford garage to get fixed, they changed the throttle sensor and the clutch bracket. Now its a lot better, but it still happens now and again. I am afraid that this might stop somebody from buying it, and was wondering if anybody might know what else it could be, as I have spent about €300 on it already, and don't want to waste anymore.

Thanks in advance
Stephen

Hey Stephen,

if you've gone into a Ford dealer and asked it be fixed, but its not, I'd say go back to them and get them to try again. You've paid for the repair but they haven't fully done it yet.

Not much help on the tech side though, sounds like something electronic, a sensor somewhere but dunno... Would imagine they could hook a computer up to it and get a good diagnosis that way?

Kev.

you can get this stuff in the motor store, it comes in a spray. you just take off your air filter and spray it in to the carb while the you have the car running do this about 2 or 3 times.

It sounds like you had an induction kit on maybe or you let the petrol run all the way down to the bottom thus filling your carb with sh it.

Don't mean to burst your bubble Thomas but no carb in an Injection car. Injectors spray fuel directly into the combustion chambers.

I would agree that it is a sensor or valve

Sounds a bit like a stepper motor, could it be the automatic choke?

Heard about something like this before, it was the thermostat or some sort of heat sensor (I ain't a mechanic) that was faulty, and when the engine was running it was giving an incorrect reading for the engine temp. the engine management thinks the engine is cold and increases the revs to raise the temp.

Maybe aske in the Ford garage if it could be this!

Stephen,
I'd agree with Kev, you could be messin' around with that forever and get nowhere - just bring it back to where you paid to get it fixed, tell them it's not fixed and take it from there.
