Tiptronic box query

Postby tug » Sun Aug 17, 2008 7:05 pm

:( H their...I am fairly new to FTO ownership having purchased my FTO in Feb this year.
Recently I bit the bullet and changed all the filters on the engine along with new oil for the engine. I did not change the Auto box fluid as it was done 12 months ago and has covered only 5k anyway. So I changed the filter on the top and will change the fluid next time.

The problem that I have noticed recently is that it has dropped in to safe mode twice...Once on the wife and once on me today. The car has done approx 300 miles since the service. I had no problems before this with the car.
One thing I had to do is disconnect the battery to get to the fuel filter when I serviced it....Do you think this has upset the box ?

Is it time for me to jettison the car......Is it worth changing the fluid in the box ?

Where should the level be on the dipstick for the box....It sits above the HOT reading in between the first bend on the stick at the mo....
Help....

Thank you

Glenn.

:(
The `N` on the dash flashes 1 per second and it stays in third.
I turned the ignition off and started it and it was fine after.

Strange.

Check the ATF levels (when hot) for a start and fill up if needed. If theres no clunkiness in gear changes, its most likely to be an I/O sensor on the box. Search the form for 'diagnostic' and follow the steps in order to determine if this in the case.

Box is smooth as silk.....No clunks.

Where should the level be on the stick ? I know above the `HOT` mark but below the bend in the stick or above it ?

Thanks

If the "N" light has flashed the fault codes have been resistered. Do a diagnostic (search this site on how to do this). This is you start point for trouble shooting.

Same thing happened mine (among other things) recently... Change the fluid anyway. Didnt do anything for me but thats the advice I got. The fluid was really expensive when I went to buy it down here in the motor shops so I got it off Camskill and saved a fair bit considering... From spending hours reading through other peoples threads about this it does nearly alwyas seem to be sensors need replacing...
Fully functional White GPvR....

The oil should read anywhere in the hot section of the dip stick, also check it when its cold too (left about 4/5hours) and see where the levels are. It should say on the stick, one side says cold, the other says hot (just incase you didnt know that  )
