The 1.8's are the 125bhp model, the other models have from 170bhp up. Because the price of the GPX's and other higher models have dropped so much, theres a good chance you'll get one of these for the same price as the GS which is the model you're looking at. The only advantage I could see in owning a GS is insurance, though with an FTO its all more or less the same, you'll be lucky to get anyone to insure you. Before you buy or even look at a car, ring insurance companies first to see if you can get a quote, if you do, get it in writing. You might be unpleasantly surprised at the quotes you get! Have a look at the insurance section on the forum.

Can't speak for the GS as I've never driven or owned one, but the GPX's run an average of between 25 and 30, which is good considering they're 2L and V6. But then again it all depends on driving style, roads been driven, whether its tip or manual, and other factors.

Go for a GPX or a GPvR.
For the little difference in price there's a huge difference in performance.

My GS does 630kms exactly to a full tank which cost me €72 to fill, I got the GS because I cant insure the the 2L FTO's but I dont regret it, still wish I could of got the Mivec but i wouldn't like the running costs in fairness, If your gonna decide on gettin a 2L go for the Mivec ones but check your insurance first
